I have been using this HD for about 3 months. It's hooked up to my MB Pro and have had zero problems so far. Transfer speed is amazingly fast with firewire 800 hooked up. It came already formated to HFS+ for Mac OS.
Runs quiet, doesn't seem to heatup and came with all the cables that are required to hookup to any of the available ports. Firewire, USB, eSATA..etc.
Matching sliver color to my MB pro was also a plus.
Overall, Great drive and I'm completely satisfied.
**Per the document included in the box, I updated my firmware before using it. If you are having problems, I would suggest updating firmware before trying other remedies/exchanging/returning it.

It may be that Amazon is selling these drives with older firmware, which must be updated in a 2-step process from the WD web site. (The only reason I was aware of this was from other user's comments (thanks!) since there seemed to be no info to that requirement with the product.) The update requires a USB 2.0 connection so if for some reason you only have USB 1, try another product. ALSO, my firmware update failed, rendering the drive unusable. After reading all the reviews I went with this drive...smart choice! It installed so easily and quickly that I thought I was missing something! Make sure to download and install the new firmware update.(the unit will not check for updates; kind of annoying since the update came out in Jan/09 and isn't installed at delivery.) I'm pretty happy with it. When I hooked it up, there was no need to install the software it comes with. I didn't know that and installed it anyway and found it obnoxious, then promptly uninstalled it. Time machine (and my MacBook Pro) is smart enough to use the drive as it is right out of the box. The only other thing about the My Book is that powering it down is confusing. I "eject" it from my Mac, and then I think it goes into a sleep mode, then I hold the power button for a bit and it turns off. When I press the button it looks like it might be waking up... again, confusing and I'm not sure..Digital camera Review: Good for the money

Nice drive for the money. I have an iMac and the Firewire interface does not work with this drive. Used regular USB and works fine.
