Digital camera reviews of 3M Ergonomic Mouse, Optical, USB/PS2 Compatible, Large Size, Black (EM500GPL)Digital camera Review: A great mouse alternative Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great alternative to the conventional computer mouse. An excellent feature is the up/down toggle button on the handle that acts as the right click/left click. The second handy feature is that you can scroll up and down by holding a button and pushing the stick - extremely useful for word documents or web surfing!
Digital camera Review: Absolutely the best mouse alternative Summary: 5 Stars
If your wrist is bothering you (or you don't want to risk that) and you are using a "normal" style mouse, you may wish to consider switching to this SPECIFIC mouse alternative! This specific "mouse" is better than the trackball type alternatives in that you don't have to keep flexing your thumb all the time. While using this mouse, your wrist and fingers all stay stationary - only your elbow is slightly changing to push it around. The weight of your hand is comfortably on the lower side of the hand which rests right on the mouse itself (so your hand never touches the desk). A right or left mouse click is performed by a very slight movement of the thumb up or down.
I got this mouse at work and immediately liked it so much that I bought one for myself at home too.
Switching to this mouse brought total relief to my wrist!
The only drawback is very minor - there is no scroll wheel - however there *is* a scroll wheel button that behaves like pressing down on the scroll wheel on a mouse. I use Mozilla/Firefox for my browser, and this "button" is fantastic to open a link into a new browser tab! The "button" is on the "handle" itself, so to "press" it you simply squeeze in your middle and fourth fingers slightly! Brilliant design.
I highly recommend this mouse (remember there is a LARGE and MEDIUM size to choose between though - and this is designed for use with your RIGHT hand)
Digital camera Review: All-in-all, a pretty good solution Summary: 4 Stars
Took less time getting used to than I anticipated, but I had to lower my desk to use this (my office chair is as high as it will go...) and ended up with some shoulder pain until I adjusted to just the right height. While my arm is in a more neutral position, the dynamics are different. I find myself lifting the mouse more often than I should, but am really enjoying this device. Feels more like an extension of my arm than the usual mouse. Has a nice feel. Using a thumb to activate the top-mounted buttons is one of its best features and my fingers are less tired at the end of the day.
My reason for seeking an alternative from usual mouse was due to my developing a slight callous on the wrist. That's completely healed, so am glad I made the switch. Get lots of compliments and "duh's" when I show it to my co-workers.
Am happy to report that scrolling is still possible accross the board, but do miss the ability to resize documents with "Ctrl-wheel".
Digital camera Review: Almost ergonomic perfection. Summary: 5 Stars
Two surgeons told me I needed surgery on my wrists for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I was booked into surgery for the following week. But then I started using this mouse and my wrist started rapidly feeling better. 6 months later, almost no RSI.
Don't trust surgeons.
RSI is often misdiagnosed as Carpal Tunnel.
Use this mouse if you have RSI in your wrists/fingers - it's likely from poorly designed standard mouses which force your wrists into unnatural and dangerous positioning.
Digital camera Review: An absolute must if you have wrist problems Summary: 5 Stars
If you have wrist problems, you owe it to yourself to try out this mouse. Yes, it's not wireless, and it doesn't look very pretty, but using this mouse for a few months relieved my wrist pain so much that it virtually disappeared. I was at a stage where I was almost completely unable to use a regular mouse or touch-pad. I was desperately looking for a mouse that would help me use a computer because that's how I make my living. I came across this mouse, and even though the price tag was a little steep, I bought this mouse. Using it only for a few weeks made a big difference in my wrist pain and numbness while using a computer. After a year of exclusively using this mouse, my pain virtually disappeared and I was able to use my touch-pad and other mice again. I also recommended this to quite a few friends who had wrist problems and they all reported positive results. If you have a wrist problem, do not wait and get this mouse!
