Digital camera reviews of 500GB USB 2.0 Port Ext HD

Digital camera Review: Broken in a month
Summary: 1 Stars

I knew this hard drive was too good to be true. It was disconnecting on it's own within a month, and a few days later wouldn't dock at all. Because of Toshiba's arbitrary return policy it's not covered by the 1 year warranty that all of the accessory products theoretically have...

Flushing your money down the toilet would be a more valuable expenditure of time and money.

Digital camera Review: Buyer Beware
Summary: 1 Stars

The product information should state that this external drive isn't compatible with a PowerBook G4. If I had known this I would never have wasted my time ordering it.

Digital camera Review: Doesn't stay connected.
Summary: 1 Stars

At first, this hard drive worked pretty well. But lately it seems incapable of remaining connected. The slightest movement is enough to have it disconnect prematurely.

I thought it may have been the usb cable but I've tried other cables and it gives the same problem. Like another reviewer suggested, it seems like the hard drive's mini usb port was designed poorly. The usb cable does not connect properly to the port so at any moment during use, the hard drive could decide to just disconnect at will.

Luckily though, this seems to be the hard drive's enclosure's fault, so you could just replace it with another case for under $10. Or you can just avoid this purchase all together and buy a naked hard drive and an enclosure separately.

Edit: After yet another abrupt disconnection (even though the drive was perfectly still) I am compelled to reduce my score from 3 stars to 2. Avoid this drive.

EDIT FINAL: My files got corrupted and I couldn't access the drive. I got Disk Warrior which worked, but the hard drive is putting up a fight. There's also a rather loud, ominous, crackling sound coming from the drive. I'm treating that with the same level of caution as I would with fleeing animals. This drive can no longer be trusted.

Digital camera Review: Easy install no power problems
Summary: 5 Stars

I just bought this pure USB (no power block required) 500MB drive for the convenience and portability. I plugged it in and it worked. No problem powering it from a single USB port on my older Lenovo R60 Windows XP Pro laptop. No noise at all. I haven't reformatted it, don't use the included software, and am not obsessing about capacity or transfer rates. The very short USB cable provided works great with a laptop but might be inconvenient or unworkable with a desktop. I don't know if there would be power or data transfer issues using the drive with a long USB cable.

It was a tossup between Western Digital Passport and the Toshiba - I picked the Toshiba to save a couple bucks, because it has rubber feet, and because Toshiba has also been a reliable manufacturer for a lot of years. So far it is just what I wanted.

Digital camera Review: Excelente compra
Summary: 5 Stars

Muy buen precio y rendimiento, también buena presentación. El acceso es rápido y silencioso. Su tamaño es perfecto para andarlo diariamente, además que como toma la electricidad del puerto USB, no hay que cargar mucho cable.
