Digital camera reviews of 500GB USB 2.0 Port Ext HDDigital camera Review: Not good for use with Virtual PC Summary: 1 Stars
This was priced $20 less than western digital and I brought this one. On many occasions, I had to spend lot of time to realize that harddisk was causing problems while copying larger files (over 20 GB each file). When I was able to coping successfuly (without corrupting them), the system would go haywire when opening them. I'm not going back to Toshiba hard disk.

Digital camera Review: Poor Quality - drive hum/vibration. Summary: 2 Stars
I have a 2 year old seagate 160 GB portable drive and recently bought this 500 GB Toshiba. There is a world of difference between the two. I don't hear or feel the seagate run. Quiet and very reliable even after running all the time - for the past two years. The brand new Toshiba by contrast, has a vibration and hum to it. Essentially the drive platters are not finely balanced. This is very poor quality control on Toshiba's part and I don't expect this drive to last very long.
I used to have the best experience with Toshiba products - but in the past 2 - 3 years this is the fifth time that a Toshiba product has proved to be significantly poor in quality. The first was a laptop that kept crashing - turned out that the heatsink was not screwed down correctly on the CPU (found out when I opened it up). The second was a laptop that broke its hinges (even though it was used very gently). The CPU cooling fan on this laptop also gave up very quickly. Both turned out be known problems when doing google searches. The third was their DVD player which stopped working after a year (and about 10 hrs worth of use) - and on Amazon reviews it turned out that others too had similar issues. The fourth is my upconverting toshiba DVD/Divx player - won't read most discs after about three years of very very light use (about once a month).
I just cannot afford reliability problems with my data. Advise you to stay away from at least this product.
Digital camera Review: Portable External Hard Drive a MUST HAVE item!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great product for storing information. I don't have to worry if my laptop crashes as all of my information is safe on the portable hard drive. It is surprisingly small (about the palm of your hand) and has 8x more GB than my laptop. It's great!
Digital camera Review: Portable hard drive does what it's suppose to Summary: 4 Stars
So far this 500GB hard drive does everything I need it to do and is very easy to use. Have used it on several different computers with both Vista and XP with no problems. Hard drive was detected and setup for use quickly with no need to install any additional software. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the very short USB cord that Toshiba provides. It is only about 12" long. Another foot or two in length would have been nice. If you're looking for a easy to use, portable hard drive, give the Toshiba a look.
