Digital camera reviews of 6ft Toslink to Mini Toslink Cable

Digital camera Review: Great Product at a great price
Summary: 4 Stars

Bought this cable for an unbelievable price and it works perfectly with my mac mini hooked to my HK home receiver.

Digital camera Review: Great audio
Summary: 5 Stars

I was using a standard stereo miniplug cable to get audio from my MacMini to my stereo. This was fine for music but I wanted 5.1 for my DVDs. The MACmini has optical through the save connector. The mini TOSlink is a no-brainer to plug in and provides great quality surround sound through my Yamaha receiver. I was a little concerned because the price was pretty low, but the quality and performance are fine.

Digital camera Review: Great cable
Summary: 5 Stars

This cable was perfect. It was cheap and it worked without any issues. There isn't much more needed to say. My Mac Mini sounds so good playing through my surround sound because of this one little cable.

Digital camera Review: Inexpensive solution, decouples electronic noise
Summary: 4 Stars

I use this cable to connect my MB Pro to my digital receiver and it works great. I use my laptop to stream movies from netflix and other online sources, so I generally connect my laptop to my HD TV using a miniDisplayPort -> HDMI plus an audio connection. I had been using a standard mini-to-RCA cable (headphone plug to analog plugs in the back of your stereo) but was finding that my laptop would generate a significant amount of electronic noise (buzzing, pops, etc.) over this connection which I attributed to ground loops and unshielded behavior in the computer. This isn't unexpected, the laptop is tiny and it's probably impossible to shield everything!

The solution was to use an audio cable without any electronic (metal) connection. The optical cable does this beautifully: since the signal is transmitted with light, it's impossible for electronic noise to "ride" on the cable to the receiver.

You've probably assumed that since I own a MB Pro, I don't shy from purchasing expensive brand-name items. This is true, but I also realize where I can save money without any loss in functionality. This item is cheap, but:

1. It has no moving parts, so it shouldn't fail in the future
2. It's not long, so light transmission isn't a concern
3. As long as you don't step on it, or crimp the cable, it should last for many years: there's nothing to rust.

Since it is cheap, I'd expect some of these products to fail initially, but if they work, it should work forever (or at least until the new digital-cable standards come out). Remember, even many of these purchased are way cheaper than one(!) monster cable. Also, since it lives behind your receiver, you don't even have to tell your friends that you have a cheap optical cable.

Digital camera Review: It doesn't work
Summary: 1 Stars

plugged it in the computer, plugged it in the bluray receiver and there's no sound.

I used different types of cable and it works, just not this one. Unhappy, but can't return because it's not worth the shipping cost that I paid for and have to pay again.
