I purchased this UPS to replace another APC UPS. Overall, I am very pleased with the product. Initially, there was a slight stench of overheated insulation/plastic, but that's almost gone (I recall other reviewers mentioning this). The UPS backs up a computer, monitor, Ethernet switch, cordless phone base station, cable modem, and wireless router. I do not use the auto-shutdown software that came with it, so I cannot comment on its efficacy.Digital camera Review: APC good

I have been working for CSX for over 5 years and many types of APC Back-UPS have been used on communications equipment and computers some of the equipment have had lightening strikes with minor issues afterwords and having a battery back up helps to improve safety by giving the employees time to adjust to the changing work conditions. APC has saved CSX several thousands of dollars in equipment and many hours labor.If it is tough enough to handle work load the railroad puts it though then I am very certain that it can handle the abuse my wife will put it though.Digital camera Review: APC: Best of the Best

I'm running a Dell desktop box (Inspiron 530) with a 22" Dell flatscreen, an external drive, scanner and the wall-wart for my cell phone through this unit.
The total draw for these items is 103 watts and it says I have 44 minutes of reserve time (awesome). You can view everything that's going on with the UPS on the unit's display or with the software (APC PowerChute Personal Edition) on your computer's monitor.
I think for a desktop PC these UPS devices are mandatory. I ran an old APC model with half the capacity of this new model until its battery finally died. Wile the battery replacement process through APC is easy and economical, I wanted a step up in the amount of time the unit would power my desktop system on battery alone.
I tried using APC's website for trading up and the model selection seems shorter than normal and many of the models were out of stock. I found exactly what I wanted at Amazon with better pricing and free shipping and the APC name; that's about as good as it gets.
I did experience one hiccup with the first unit being damaged upon arrival (physical damage) and Amazon promptly sent its replacement.

This is my second APC product, and, as with the first, it seems first rate. The digital info center on the front panel is also a handy feature. For my present set-up, this unit will give me about 2 hours runtime in the event of a power failure.Way more than adequate time.
