The UPS arrived dead. I called tech support and was very quickly diagnosing the failure. For whatever reason, the UPS was not being powered by the wall outlet. I've owned 2 of these now, but won't be buying any more. The battery only lasted a few months in the first one, making it useless as a UPS and just a very expensive way to plug several devices into one electrical outlet. The second one (another brand-new unit) didn't fare much better. Unless you are willing to buy a new unit every 6-12 months I'd avoid this one.
The manufacturer wants more for a replacement battery than the whole unit cost, so that's not a good option.

In the month since I have been using this UPS I have had 3 incidents where it has cut the power to my computer, sounded an alarm, and required a reset. The software did not provide an explanation of the cause. My best guess is that my computer simply draws more power than this UPS can handle? I have come to trust APC products and this one has not dissapointed me. Our neighborhood is prone to numerous brownouts and brief power outages.....This backup has served my laptop well, providing the "juice" needed at all times.Digital camera Review: It's $40... It does what a $40 ups should.

We ended up buying almost 30 of these for our office and I got them set up last weekend. We decided to leave a couple computers unprotected because they aren't in the office much...
Anyhow. We lost power last night, and one of the systems that was left without one of these had its hard drive fail. It would not boot or let me re-install windows on it to repair the installation..> Luckily I was able to back up all of the files though and am currently restoring them to another ahrd drive to get the computer back up and running.
The time i'm spending on this computer today and then having to send its hard drive in for RMA is going to end up being close to double the cost of these units.
If you have higher wattage you're going to have to spend the extra money to get a more powerful unit but this will work great for single pcs or electronics.
** just s sub note. I placed my order for 28 of these and didn't expect them to even ship for another week... got them the next day for FREE!
