I have had this answering system for over a year now. I needed another one because the puppy chewed into the power cord and amazon's price for a complete system including the power cord is less than a replacement power cord itself. This answering system is Easy to use. Great to get messages without calling a voice mail phone number. Easy to filter out annoying unwanted callers because people I know will leave a message and sometimes wait till I can answer the phone. Right out of the box, plugged in and ready to go. Biggest plus was the quality of sound and ability to raise it for those who are hard of hearing. No plastic sound while on high volume. Far more quality than cost. Considering buying another one as a spare because good machines are hard to find and all those I have tried that are built in the phone are very poor sound quality and the louder you turn them the more distortion.AT&T 1739 - Corded Digital Answering SystemDigital camera Review: ATT Answering Machine

Pros: Nice product, easy to use/user friendly, not to complicated to
install,why pay every month for an additional phone service like voicemail where you can have an answering machine, not too high tech but nowadays you have to SAVE money.
Cons: you cant watch DIRECT TV :-P

I got this item to transition from a basic POTS line to a OOMA VOIP system. I recored a short message on the machine that directed callers to my new VOIP number. This solution was cheaper then requesting and setting up voice mail from ATT. after on month , I cut the ATT POTS line. Now I am with ATT DSL only. Like almost everything else. MADE IN CHINA.

The volume is more than adequate, sound quality is good, setup is easy.
CONS: No backup battery. After power loss, if you had a custom outgoing message, it's a hassle. If you used the generic outgoing message, setup takes only a few minutes.
PROS: EVERYTHING ELSE. Setup is easy and intuitive; you don't even need to read any instructions, it's that simple! And the # of rings before answering is set by software, not a limited switch, so you can set it precisely as you desire. I especially like the voice announce of the incoming caller's phone number.
