Digital camera reviews of AT&T 1856 Corded Speakerphone with Digital Answering System (White)

Digital camera Review: Do not buy to mount on the wall!
Summary: 2 Stars

This phone might be great, I haven't actually tried it yet. But a warning: when you mount it on the wall, the handset slides off. Don't buy it if that's where you're planning on installing it.

Digital camera Review: Don't buy this phone
Summary: 1 Stars

I was looking for an inexpensive phone/answering machine. I regret buying this phone. The sound quality is terrible. I cannot clearly hear many of my callers. The answering part of the machine is not even worth $1. Most of the time I cannot understand the messages that people leave, as the message fades in and out, despite turning the volume up to the maximum. I wouldn't recommend buying this machine at all. I've owned the machine 9 months and I'm ready to give up on it.

Digital camera Review: Feels cheap but works fine
Summary: 4 Stars

This phone/answering machine will perform as represented. It has a cheap feel to it and might not hold up to a lot of abuse, but it is what it says it is and it works. It is a reasonable alternative to paying the phone company $8 a month to take your messages for you -- ironic that my phone company is AT&T.

You might want a longer handset cord though, the one that it comes with is really short.

Digital camera Review: First caller ID phone
Summary: 4 Stars

As this is the first caller ID phone we have used, we cannot compare some features, but it sure seems to work ok for us. Contrary to what some reviews said, it does hang on the wall just fine. You do, of course, have to catch on to the trick of changing the hang up button around to accomodate the wall position. The voice quality is a bit raspy, not as clear as our previous separated voice machine, but the buttons seem to work ok and it isn't very hard to figure it out. I put it together and hung it on the wall myself and I have no prior experience. We find the phone to be adequate, nothing tremendous about it, but nothing really bad either for an inexpensive compact phone system.

Digital camera Review: Generally OK
Summary: 3 Stars

Most features of the ATT 1856 worked as advertised. It does keep listing a bunch of incoming calls on the caller ID list when I haven't received any such calls; it's up to over 40 now. It's not a big deal, but nothing I could do solved the problem. Their customer service is practically nonexistent. The other glitch is that messages tend to fade to inaudible toward the end if they're long. I've only used the 1856 for about 5 weeks, so I can't address its reliability.
