Digital camera Review: Good Ansewring System/Phone

The number of basic telephone answering machines and answering machines with corded telephones has shrunk to just a few in the past two years. Seems like everybody needs a machine with two or even three cordless handsets. Well, if you are like me- you use your cell phone much of the time and use your home phone to screen out unwanted calls from work,annoying relatives and anybody else you wouldn't give your cell number to- a basic corded phone with answering machine is all you need. Cordless phones are a pain in the wallet if you don't use them much- the batteries go bad very quickly, so a corded phone is my only choice.
The AT&T 1856 is easy to set up, has caller ID (if you subscribe to that service -I don't) and is easy to use. The phone has good sound quality and you don't need a battery back-up to save messages- though all your settings are erased after a power outage. The speaker phone works well enough too.
My biggest gripe- the really short handset cord- you can't be more than two feet from the phone!- so order a 12 or 20 footer along with the phone!

I bought this telephone for my boyfriend who specifically wanted a corded phone, with an answering machine, and speaker phone. This phone had all three, and wasn't overly expensive. Everything worked well. Do not have any major complaints. Wish I could of found the exact same phone in black instead of white though.Digital camera Review: Good Phone for the price but some issues

For the price, this is a great phone. Two issues however,
1. the mic for the speakephone function is not very good, you need to be very close to it and speak loudly for it to work properly
2. the display screen is not backlighted so it can be difficult to see during daylight and you need a light on to read the display at night.

For the money, this telephone/answering machine provides the features that you would expect in such a product. Call quality is excellent and speakerphone audio quality is good. I also like the fact that it does not require batteries to retain messages during a power failure.
However, I needed to return this unit for two reasons, both relating to the answering machine part of this product:
(1) If you choose to record a custom outgoing announcement, the audio quality is abysmal. No matter how many times I re-recorded the outgoing announcement, the pitch and volume were altered in such a way as to make me sound very tired or depressed. The answering machine changed the pitch of my voice to make it sound lower and made the volume of the first two seconds or so lower than the rest of the announcement. It altered my voice so much that it did not sound like me.
(2) The volume change described above also affected incoming messages. The first two seconds or so of an incoming message sounded lower in volume than the rest of the message.

Very good function for the money. Audio failed after a few days, and unit was promptly and conveniently replaced by Amazon.
