Digital camera reviews of Access HD 1080D NTIA-Approved Digital to Analog TV Converter Box

Digital camera Review: Rip off
Summary: 1 Stars

Having 3 TVs and only two coupons we went to the local drug store (Walmart was sold out) to pick up a converter box. We were told they were all the same. Even with the govt coupons it cost us $50. (they were $65 each) From the start reception was troubled. But we assumed it was the antennae. So we spent a lot of money rewiring the entire house for better reception. Pictures came in clear as a bell, as if we had a cable connection. But one TV got twice as many channels as the other. Again we figured it was the connections. This time we bought heavier cables with all brass fittings to make sure everything was top drawer. Still nothing. Finally someone gave us a box of a well know manufacturer and every station came through clear as a bell. These boxes must have burned themselves out in less than 6 months. These people should have a recall. The high price of the boxes doesn't begin to cover the damage people have suffered trying to get their TVs to work. I'm now in the market for two more new boxes. I will never buy from this company again.

Digital camera Review: Saved the TV at work.
Summary: 4 Stars

We have had this unit set up at work for a couple of weeks and it works great. The picture on the TV is clear. The only problem I have is the image zoom crops the image. But the picture is still WAY better than having no TV. I give this product a confident thumbs-up.

Digital camera Review: Seemed Good
Summary: 4 Stars

Well we bought this because we thought we needed to even w/ Cable TV. When we got it and set it all up we realized that we didn't. It arrived in perfect shape and I sure would have been great had we been able to use it.

Digital camera Review: Slow Scan, Poor Picture, Non Returnable
Summary: 1 Stars

I guess you get what you pay for. I paid $26 for this, and it didn't perform. The channel scan was slow. When it found 21 channels available, the quality was less than the Insignia converter I bought used. The Insignia also scanned channels much faster. When I called the 1-800 number for assistance, they told me poor picture quality and slow scanning weren't problems, and refused to accept returns, or any assistance other than exchange for the same product.

Digital camera Review: Static noise, no returns, no tech support
Summary: 1 Stars

There is a large amount of hiss that comes over the audio on this unit. They have a few suggestions on how to fix this on their website - I tried them all, unsuccessfully. The noise is distractingly loud.

I contacted tech-support and they've just ignored me. And this being a coupon box, it is non-refundable.

I also bought the Tivax unit which is remarkably similar, but without the hissing noise. (The remotes have the same layout and the on-screen menus are the same, telling me that these two boxes are one-in-the-same, but the Tivax has better audio.)
