Digital camera reviews of Addonics ADSAIDE SATA to IDE-ATAPI Converter

Digital camera Review: Great Product
Summary: 5 Stars

Worked as described. No problems. Seems a little fragile, but that is to be expected.

Digital camera Review: I GUESS IT'S OKAY...BUT....
Summary: 4 Stars

when i read in some of the reviews that it wasn't working, i figured that they didn't know how to install it. however, i have an adequate knowledge of computers and this thing was temperamental with me also. i decided to fore go installing it on my ide drive computer and just install the WD hard drive i bought with it on another (sata) computer as a slave. i couldn't in all honestly give it a five star because I'm not using it. but i couldn't give it a lower rating because i could see how it could work as a stand-alone drive. on the ide computer, i was going to make the sata a slave also. so, it couldn't meet my needs.

it is also flimsy and easily loosened.

Digital camera Review: IDE or SATA Adaptor
Summary: 3 Stars

Purchased the Addonics SATA/IDE Adaptor. It was easy to plug in an came with the power adaptor (so I did not have to buy one - even though I did.) I am assuming it is this adaptor that seems to only find the hard drive half the time. I have to reboot a second time almost each time I log onto the computer.

Digital camera Review: In valuable for SATA optical drives and Vista
Summary: 5 Stars

There were two reasons I bought this product. First, I need the extra SATA port taken by my Blu-Ray optical drive. Second, Vista as it currently ships crashes and won't even boot or install if you have a SATA optical drive and 3GB or more of RAM ... both of which I do. Everytime I have to reinstall VISTA (and I do this quite a bit), I have to open the case and unplug the blu-ray drive. A PAIN when you do so many reinstalls as I do.

Digital camera Review: Life saver, but don't buy the recommended cable
Summary: 5 Stars

For my birthday, my wife bought me a Mediagate MG-35 Multimedia player and also a 500GB Western Digital hard drive to go with it. (The Mediagate is essentially a hard drive enclosure, that hooks into your Media Center and can play Video or music files from the drive)

When I went to install the hard drive in the Mediagate, I discovered that the drive had a SATA interface, but the Mediagate would only accept an IDE drive. My wife was understandably upset that the gift she bought me wouldn't work, but I figured there must be some kind of converter on the market and searched online and found some from a few different manufacturers.

In general, reviews of these converters showed that people were having problems, but eventually I found a link with results from tests done on the Addonics Converter by a Mac user group: http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/addonics/sata-ide/. That was enough to convince me, and so I purchased the "Addonics ADSAIDE SATA to IDE-ATAPI Converter" here on Amazon.com.

Once the converter arrived, I got the hard drive working with the Mediagate right away - everything plugs together easily. Just be sure to follow the clear directions showing how to align 'pin 1' with the stripe on the ribbon cable of your IDE connector. The small amount of extra length added to the drive by the Addonics converter meant that at first, the drive wouldn't fit in the Mediagate with the case closed. But a minor modification to the Mediagate mounting plate did the trick.

Over the last couple of months, the Addonics Converter has worked flawlessly, conneting the IDE Mediagate MG-35 to the SATA hard drive through many gigabites of file transfers and hours of movie watching and music listening. I have not had any problems and my wife is happy :-) I wholeheartedly recommend this Addonics device to anyone in a similar situation.

My only complaint - which is not against the Addonics Converter - is that Amazon recommend purchasing the "Tripp Lite P944-06I Serial ATA (SATA) Power Cable (6 Inch)" with the converter. Another review said the extra cable isn't needed, but I bought it anyway, just in case. That was a mistake. I'm not sure who would use the extra cable but I certainly didn't. The Addonics Converter comes with everything needed to transform a SATA drive into an IDE drive.
