Excellent product! When my IDE drive started giving me trouble, I could not readily find a large enough IDE drive to replace it. Instead I bought a Seagate SATA drive and this adapter. The Seagate software cloned my current drive to the new one, I removed the older drive, and Bingo, I'm now booting on my new SATA drive. The fact that you don't need new drivers to use this (or switch motherboards to get SATA support) makes that process MUCH simpler than it could be. I bought a SATA DVDRW drive for my Dad's computer not realizing that his computer only had IDE connections inside, so I bought this rather than return the DVD drive through the mail to Amazon. It does work, but it's extremely slow to the point that trying to watch a DVD is not worth bothering (it skips consistently since it can't keep up). Granted, it could be the DVD drive, but I'm 99.99% sure it's simply that the Addonics converter can not convert the data fast enough to play a DVD. I can read non-movie DVDs fine, but it is noticeably slower (as in a lot slower) than the IDE CD drive already on his computer. Based on all of this, I'm sure data will move much slower through this converter on your hard drive also, than if you had a hard drive that didn't need to be converted.
Therefore, it works, but if you can avoid buying this and just replace the drive you need to convert with one that doesn't need a converter, that is the way to go. I paid $25.71 for this converter and $30.99 for the drive. It's my fault for not paying more attention in the first place, but I could have just bought an IDE drive for under $40 and been good to go.

I can make this short and simple. If your computer uses IDE cables, and you accidentally bought a SATA drive, just like I did, THIS IS ALL YOU NEED!!!
Simple as that. This is the absolute only thing you need to make this work in your computer. DON'T BUY A BUNDLE THAT COMES WITH POWER CORD CONVERTERS. You don't need it.

If I would have known that there existed such a small gadget to solve my problems, I would have gotten it a long time ago, unfortunately, I had to do so much readings and even joined a forum to solve my problem, they only gave me a rough idea of what I had to do, with a little nervousness and common sense, I chose the proper one. The features should be explained in detail so others can be decisive on what they want, I do not know much about hardware but I knew I needed a converter from my IDE to SATA for my new HD.Digital camera Review: Worked exactly as advertised.

I wanted to upgrade my hard drive from an 80Gb IDE to a 1Tb Seagate SATA. The converter works great. Instructions were clear. I was a bit concerned with a couple of reviews regarding its "sturdiness", but I found it to be every bit as sturdy as any other computer part I've had experience with. I'm thrilled.
