Digital camera Review: A good starter
Summary: 4 Stars
This light set is a great starter for the begininer or the photographer on a budget. This unit is portable and easily assembled (up or down in less than 5 minutes), which makes it ideal to use anytime you have access to AC power. The soft box and defuser panels do a significant job of softening the light projected. I've shot using it with them on and off for various effects and been pleased with the results. The unit is also set up to accept an umbrella reflector (my next planned purchase).
That being said, the Budget Monolight has some significant limitiations. The 100 watt flash just does not have the power to reach out more than 12 feet (4 meters) and significantly illuminate the target by itself. The spotter light (included) helps, but several of these lights are necessary to recreate the power of one 250 watt high power flash. The manual with this flash doesn't say whether it's upgradable to a stronger flash blub assembly or not.
