This adapter uses a dummy post to get around using a real ground. In most places the unit popped out of the outlet because it was not grounded. There was only one time it was usable. Although I would guess this product is suitable for other countries in Europe, it does not work in Romania. Romania uses the same type of plug as the other EU nations; however, the socket is deeper and this adapter does not reach all the way. Instead of an adapter like this one, I would recommend just getting a non-universal plug which just slides over the US prongs and is very small (basically, a plug that extends and converts without the bulky adapter like this one).Digital camera Review: Does not work in UK

I bought 4 of these for use in the UK. The UK requires that all three prongs inserted into the wall socket be metal conductors. This unit uses a plastic insert for the ground; hense these units do not work in the UK. After several attempts and getting an electrician's advice, I threw these units away. Fortunately, we had two straightforward UK to US adaptors with three metal conductors and they worked very well.
They do work as US to German adapters. I did not have opportunity to test them for any other of the ostensible countries.

I bought three of these for a European trip this summer. They are incredibly poorly made, and only work intermittently in UK outlets. Often one would have to only partially insert the plug into the outlet to get it to turn on. One of the three adapters did not work at all, and the second one literally exploded---sent out a flash and fireball when I plugged an iPhone charger into it at a hotel---destroying both the adapter and the charger (as well as freaking everybody out). The two remaining adapters worked slightly better in continental Europe, but not perfectly. I can't claim to have personally tried every single outlet in Europe, but I can tell you that the majority of European plugs are recessed: that is, the actual socket into which the plug prongs go is set into a little round hole about half an inch deep. This adapter does not fit into that recess, and is therefore useless. I found this out the hard way in both Holland and the Czech Republic, and great was the wailing and lamentation on both occasions.
You can use this with an extender built for the purpose (see the Simran Plug Adapter on this site for an example), but if you're doing that, why not just get an adapter that fits in the first place?
