I am really happy with this miniature sound system. Having come of age with Nakamichi units (I used to work for them) and then having a rather nice Kenwood system for years, I came quite belatedly into the iPod world. This docking station is compact and easy to use and the sound is surprisingly crisp and clear. It works perfectly in my apartment as I can hear it clearly in four different rooms. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The price was very reasonable, the speakers are wonderfully compact, the sound quality is great, and when the adapter is plugged in, the system charges my iPod as well (which is a godsend as my cat decided to make a meal out of my original charger). I travel a great deal internationally, so the international plug adapters are an added plus, and the speakers take up very little room or weight in my luggage. It's a wonderful way to take your life with you on the road, without having to rely only on the earbuds to hear your music or watch tv episodes. I bought the IM5 because my video ipod wouldnt fit in the IM3 (mini ipod or nano only). I could attach it but wouldnt charge the ipod like that.
I havent taken it on my trip yet but things I have noticed about it already is it has a poorly placed on/off button. I usually carry this in my backpack to protect it as much as I can but the button can be turned on if something else presses against it. The IM3 has 2 power options. Much harder to turn on while traveling. I think I will have to remove a battery to make sure it doesnt wear them out.
Upon further inspection, it has a 3 minute auto-shut off if no audio is detected. Thats good but the button is still able to be turned on too easily. Couldve placed it in a better location and provided a remore control as well.
Secondly, its heavier that the IM3. About an inch shorter, but slightly longer and thicker, it weighs more. So that more to lug around in the backpack. I suppose the added weight helps create more bass. Dont really know but it is a travel speaker, not a home sound system.
I also think the IM3 has a better crisper cleaner sound. The vocals sound better to me. Speakers are a personal preference so thats subjective. The bass is better and the treble is more normal sounding that the IM3.
I got a great price ($36 shipped) so I cant complain too much but if the IM3 wouldve fit the video ipods I wouldve been happy with that.
Good luck with it. Its seems like it will be a decent speaker for the price. Especially if you happen to get a really low price like I found.

What a great concept. This unit is nice and small, comes with carring case and plug adapters for seemingly any place in the entire world that you would/could possilbly go.
The sound quality is great.
Only negative point is that you have to remove any clips or casing from your ipod before it will fit in the unit.
