Digital camera reviews of Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 Firewire-Charging Portable Audio System for iPod (Black)Digital camera Review: Absolute value for the money Summary: 5 Stars
The sound performance of the iM600 as an iPod dock is outstanding for a small living space with numerous rooms. The volume turns up nicely without reverberation. The remote is effective, although the small size and slick backing can cause it slip out of your fingers easily. Am hoping AL will release a compact well-priced subwoofer again soon to complement this.
Digital camera Review: Add a powered sub, and you're cooking with plutonium! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had these speakers for about 8 months now. I only use the volume at around 20 (out of 40), and it is plenty loud. I added an old powered sub that I had, and this combination really rocks! You don't need the Altec-Lansing one, which seems nearly impossible to find. The dock speakers redirect bass out to the sub when it senses the 'sub out' plug engaged to free up wattage for the mids and highs. I use the speakers for my laptop, as well as the ipod, though really, since iTunes is on the laptop, there's no need for the ipod, except to charge it. One thing I will comment on, and this is something others have noted: sometimes the connection between ipod and dock is not so good (won't play/charge), so I just stick something small and soft (nerf dart?) to tilt the ipod a little forward, and then all is good. So I don't use this system for its portability very often, but for me, it works extremely well. Great highs, great lows, it's not Bose! I'm kidding, Bose is good, though overpriced.
Digital camera Review: Adequate sound, but not as good as expected Summary: 2 Stars
After reading raves reviews on Amazon I bought the iM600. On plugging in my iPod the sound quality was very poor, much worse than the 10 year old portable CD player it was replacing (which wasn't much bigger in dimensions than the iM600.) Even the FM radio sounded awful through it.
For this price, I'd expect something with halfway decent sound, but it failed to live up to the lowest of expectations.
- UPDATE -
I went to the local HiFi store and tried another one of these out, and the sound is heaps better. Looks like I got a dud. It doesn't change my rating though, as quality control in their factory is obviously lacking.
Digital camera Review: Altec Summary: 2 Stars
Not everything about the product was disclosed. The control remote of the Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 does not work.
Digital camera Review: Altec Lansing Epitomizes Good Quality Summary: 5 Stars
My sister gave me a different model for Chrismtas a couple of years back, and my husband absconded with it. He travels a lot on business, and works in noisy environments, so he loves having the ability to play (and share) his favorite tunes on the job (his associates rather like it, too)!
Given our good experience with a similar system, we purchased this product as a birthday gift for our 24-yr-old son. He quickly called to say, "Thank you SO much for the docking station!!! I use it every day--it's awesome!"
The compact size, easy portability and the amazing speaker quality are the major plusses from my (albeit limited...) perspective!
