Digital camera reviews of Aluratek AIRJ01F USB Internet Radio JukeboxDigital camera Review: A neat product, but it's finicky Summary: 4 StarsI purchased this product as an alternative to satellite radio and I'm fairly pleased with it. While some people may wonder, "Why even bother when there's websites, Pandora, etc". The reason is because it's VERY convenient and fairly user-friendly. You plug it into a USB port and it lists all of the stations by country, genre, etc. You name it, it's probably there. It takes a lot of the hassle of trekking around the internet for radio stations. Better yet, you can rate stations and save favorites, so it's easier to find gems in the thousands of stations since you can look at recommendations.
While I say the interface is user friendly, the software isn't always that way. I had a bit of trouble getting this to run because the user-account control popups would come up constantly, asking me to load the software off the USB even though I've already done so (the actual usb drive comes up as a CD-ROM - presumably because you're not REALLY installing stuff on your computer). It got to the point where it wasn't usable. Turning off the user account control prompts solved the problem, but if you want security, this device isn't for you.
Once you do get it to work, the sound is awesome, and it's a snazzy little device.
Digital camera Review: Problems getting it to work Summary: 2 StarsThis product sounded impressive but I still can't get it to work....though I haven't given up. No sure it's necessary with ITUNES and other options.
Digital camera Review: Internet USB radio Summary: 5 StarsThis is so easy to use and has great reception (depending on your wireless service), I bought 3 - one for myself, one for my son-in-law, and one to keep at work. It does everything the ad says it does but better. Just plug it in your computer's usb port and off you go. News and music from all over the world just as clear as the stations from 20 miles away. I love this new toy.
Digital camera Review: Perfect Clear Radio Reception Summary: 5 StarsIf you get bad and limited radio reception, this is a must and no hidden charges!
Digital camera Review: Great little device Summary: 4 StarsI bought the Aluratek because radio reception in our community is low, and I also wanted to have easy access to European stations. It works quite easily, both on my laptop and older desktop- the software is occasionally fidgety, but not too much of a problem. Once I set up my favorites list I can switch between NPR, CBC-Ottawa, news from Ireland, Hungary, Norway, etc. Best of all I can receive Classic FM from the UK, which is restricted to UK residents over the Web. The sound quality is not at CD-level and even with a high-speed cable connection it cuts out every once in a while, but not any worse than a normal radio.
