The plastic coating on the calble has hardened and is peeling off. I don't know if others have had this problem or not. It is not due to dryness as I live in Hawaii and that is not a problem. I would buy another one but am afraid it would just be the same. I have only had this one year, should last longer than this. I hope that Amazon will take action to correct, but don't think they read these comments. Many have commented on the poor quality of the small portable light (M-Edge e-Luminator2 Booklight for Amazon Kindle (Fits 6" Display, 2nd gen)
, but nothing has been done.

I bought an extra cable for my Kindle so I can keep it at the office for moving content. I love the white color. Amazon learned something nice from Apple. The USB cable received does not fit my Kindle that was purchased in June 2009. The connector for the Kindle port is too large. Therefore, I'm still in need of the correct one.Digital camera Review: For those that say it "didn't fit your kindle" ....

Then you do not have a "FIRST Generation Kindle"!
The original kindle takes this cable (The larger plug kind), while later Kindles take the smaller plug.
If you aren't sure which you are, if you do not have the silver side navigation tool, you are NOT the First Generation Kindle, and this cable will not work for you.
For those with the actual First Gen Kindle - this IS the cable that you need; the smaller cable for the newer Kindles will NOT work for you :-)
