I turned on my Kindle and the battery was dead! Oh no, I really need it for a book I was required to read. Plugged it in to the adapter and nothing happened. Either it's the Kindle or the power plug. I called the help number for Kindle on the Amazon website and the service rep. immediately knew that it was the power plug and had one fed ex'ed to me the very next day. I love it when one cord can serve two purposes. This cord and adapter are excellent for both recharging my Kindle and connecting my Kindle to my Macs. I have not had any problems with shorted connections yet. At 14.99 it is worth having a spare. The Kindle always seems to run low on power at the farathest distance from wherever the cord is plugged in. THe first chaarger is plugges in next to my bed and I have been keeping the extra one plugged in next to my reading chair. I also like it for travel.
I also love the detachable plug. I have used it to charge other items that are slow to take an initial charge through a USB. I don't know why more products don't come with one.
