Also known by the brand names FireWire (Apple), i.LINK (Sony), and Lynx (Texas Instruments), the IEEE1394 interface offers high-speed communication and real-time data transfer, making it a great choice for connecting data storage devices and digital video cameras. In fact, IEEE1394 is the primary interface used for nearly all high-end professional audio and visual equipment.

Plug-and-Play Capability
Although the cable doesn't require a host computer to operate, giving it a distinct advantage over USB cables, it features plug-and-play functionality for those times when you wish to connect to your machine.
