Digital camera Review: A great charger for a reasonable price

If you're like me you're tired of buying and throwing away alkaline batteries every month or so for the electronic items you use a lot, like your bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately, until recently, rechargeable batteries and chargers have fallen short of being worth the extra hassle and expense. NiCad batteries don't tend to hold their charge very long, and in general the amount of "juice" you get out of a rechargeable, even one of the new nickel metal hydride batteries, is less than an alkaline. If you do your homework, though, and spend a little more on your batteries (find a good brand, like Ansmann 5035092 AA of 2850mAh Rechargeable Batteries (4-Pack)) and the charger, you'll get almost as much out of your rechargeables as your alkalines. And in the long run you'll save money and reduce you're impact on the environment. This charger is the king of rechargers. Made in Germany, it requires almost no intructions. It analyzes, recharges, and maintains your batteries while they are in it. LEDs make it clear what the device is doing at all times. Each battery is analyzed and charged individually, so you can have different types, brands, sizes, etc. charging all at once. I highly recommend it. Downsides? It's more expensive than most chargers, and it doesn't charge batteries as quickly as I would like (my dead AAs took about 8 hours to charge).
Summary of Ansmann Energy 8 Charger
The energy 8 is equipped with a user interface and battery loading technique. After inserting the NiCd/NiMH rechargeable battery, a capacity quick test is performed for around 5 seconds. The user may then remove the cells or leave them in place so that a full diagnosis of the battery is executed and with damaged batteries a refreshing programm is invoked. Damaged cells are reactivated and the capacity of the battery is restored. Depending upon the condition of the inserted battery, the refreshing programm may cycle several times until the battery is regenerated.Battery Chargers
