Digital camera reviews of Antec MX-100 3.5-Inch USB Aluminum Enclosure for SATA Hard Drive

Digital camera Review: A Good Deal
Summary: 4 Stars

Good price, good product, does what it is supposed to do. I removed an internal drive from my desktop PC and installed it in the case. It was already set up as a storage drive but I could not get any PC in my house to recognize it. I finally had to format the drive and then it worked perfectly. Fortunately I had anticipated the possibility of a problem and backed up the data on the drive before the switch.

Digital camera Review: A Life Saving Quick Swap
Summary: 5 Stars

This object alone saved nearly three years of hard work (documents, studies, and pictures). I owned a Western Digital 320gb external hardrive, as sturdy as the ext hd was, it couldn't survive my little nephews constant tugging on the wires. After opening it I quickly thought I could fix it with a soldering iron (oh how wrong I was), only to have a handful of burns literally. Realizing the problem layed within the usb and power area, a few stores reccomended me some rather pricey (50-80$) replacements. Problem was for that price I could easily go out and buy a new ext hd, grab the part needed from that and fix it on my own so on so fourth.

After a little bit more searching I came to the conclusion Antec's MX-100 would not only do what I only hoped for, but exceed that of what I thought I could do and for a much more reasonable price (under 30$). When I received it I was also happily suprised to see how nice the brushed look had over the aluminum, and the ease of installation didn't hurt either. Running this thing for a few hours at a time swapping data between computers and laptops, I've found the MX-100 to minimal heating (with no issues currently present). It's just as functional as my Western Digital.

The set up is amongst one of the easiest things to do in a gadget run world today. Remove your hardrive from its current enclosure, open the MX-100 by the power switch side, mount your hardrive into the little slot, and aline the little led light cable. Close, screw in four screws, and plug in the two cables given with it (power supply, and USB 2.0), and well there you go. Whenever you're ready to use your hardrive, flick the power switch to on and make sure the power supplies plugged into the wall. I mean really it can't get much easier then that.

Between the ease of use, the ability to save those hard drives often times thought to be well beyond the grave, and its stylish looks the MX-100 is a sure buy. The only con I can find (which honestly isn't all to bad) is that the cables are a tad bit short, and your hard drive may feel a little loose in there enclosure. Just a small gripe of mine, however that does not effect my views of this at all.

Digital camera Review: A good enclosure and not too expensive

A great enclosure that is quick and easy to swap SATA drives into and out of. The price was great as well.

Digital camera Review: Antec Enclosure for my SATA Drive
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased a 500G SATA drive thinking I could install it into my Dell Inspriron 531 (with 500G already). After quite some time and some really good service over the phone with Dell, they told me my computer has a maximum internal drive capacity, of which, I was already at. They suggested using an enclosure and making my recent purchase a USB drive.

I found it on Amazon and ordered the enclosure. When it came it had simple but clear instructions, which I didn't really need. I assembed the drive into the enclosure. The only problem I had was that there is a power connecting wire that when I first tried to open the assembly so I could put my drive in, the wire seemed to be stuck. It took me a while to relize that they had put a small ammount of adhesive to hold it in place and that I had to free this up so I could slide the assembly out and install my drive. Once I figured that out it was a breeze.

After assembly it worked fine right off the bat, took a while to format the 500G dive, but now I can use it and have a terabyte of memory for my video editing.

Digital camera Review: Antec MX-100
Summary: 5 Stars

Works great.I have only used this enclosure for short periods of time due to the rapid speed of my HD/CPU combination. I own another Antec enclosure that has a built in fan, it is constructed out of plastic. The MX-100 is an all aluminum housing and doesn't have a fan, I have had no problems with either housing, they both work great and I would recommend purchasing this product based on ease of use and price.
