Digital camera reviews of Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station (Simultaneous Dual-Band) (MC340LL/A)Digital camera Review: Airport Extreme Base station Summary: 5 Stars
This base station is awesome. When I received it I took it out of the box and in less than 15 minutes I had it up and working. I have made the switch to all Apple products and for the last 18 months, I have not had any pc issues. What a relief. Thanks Apple! Some people complain about Apple products and the pricing, but I am a huge fan. I had pc's with windows operating systems and everytime I added a new piece of hardware there were issues. Bill Gates could learn something from Apple. The Apple stuff just plain works, with very little effort.
Digital camera Review: Airport Extreme Router USB port does not support printers with PC operating using Windows 7. Summary: 4 Stars
Best router I have ever owned for a non-mac environment, but a recent PC meltdown resulted in having to new buy one with Windows 7 operating system. According to a Apple Rep who called back using their well designed customer service system, no updates are available yet to run a non-wireless printer using the USB port networking port available on the Airport Extreme. I am not sure if this would apply to other USB connected peripherals, since I only use it for an HP Office Jet L7680. She had no info on when it might be available other that probably in a month or two.
Digital camera Review: Airport Extreme and thick walls Summary: 4 Stars
I have very thick walls, 2.5 feet of adobe, brick and rock. My server is in my study and the thick walls have caused dead spots and poor reception in my living room. I upgraded my Airport Express to an Airport Express 80211n (n) and used my old 80211g (g) as a remote, but that did not work. After a couple of visits to two Apple stores on a recent visit to the US and much research on the Internet, I replaced the Express (n) with an Extreme (n) (used on Amazon) though they are both supposed to have the same range, which is mostly dependent on the (n), not the size of the Airport. I also replaced the remote Express (g) with the Express (n). One of the Apple guys (pick the older more experienced ones as the younger ones don't know much more than the stock answers) said that it is true that the range depends on the (n), but that the Extreme's antennas are (is?) slightly larger and that that might help. Now with an Extreme (n) and a remote Express (n) I have coverage in the living room and the bedroom beyond, and the connection is faster. I might have gotten by with another Express (n) instead of the Extreme (n), but I figured I would try the slightly larger antenna on the Extreme since I live in Mexico and could not return items via mail.
Digital camera Review: Airport extreme Summary: 5 Stars
Extreme is just that, extremely easy to set up, extremely reliable, extreme range. My one wish for this would be additional USB ports, so I did not need a USB hub with it. But I knew that before I bought it. Apple, add a couple more usb ports!
Digital camera Review: Airport extreme works great Summary: 5 Stars
This little gem works wonders in my home.
Was able to set up a secure network in no time. Works with my three Macs, two iPod touches, Wii, the original Airport Express, (so I can use it as a wireless iTunes player),and even my android phone. Yes, I know, no iPhone yet. Soon.
Total time was about an hour to set up and get everybody talking.
Oh, and works great with Time Machine.
Also able to set up a secure guest network for family/visitors that need WiFi hook up.
