Digital camera Review: Apple's Airport Extreme = Pretty Great

Apple's Airport Extreme is pretty great. It's sleak, easy to use, small, and gives a really good wireless range even through old/thick walls throughout my apartment. It is a little pricey for what it is, you could easily get a Linksys router of equal excellence for fairly cheaper, but this is worth it if you want a hassle free user experience. That and within the first week of obtaining my router my apartment was struck by lightning which rendered the router not able to turn on. I have read about this problem occurring more than you'd think. Lightning affects the router pretty easily though Apple and or Amazon have been good to replace it, so I would recommend using a high quality surge protector with it.Digital camera Review: At what price??? $179 or so for this router. Runs hot, but other than that not too bad. Then again, I just installed a Linksys E-1000 for my gf --- $59 for N-300, one channel (not two), no gigabit. But it works just as well! Most of us have input speeds from our ISP provider well below 300. And do not own 50 computers. Her and I both use cablevision (which is fine and runs at g speeds --- which is fast enough. I use an old desktop (wired), new Mac laptop and iTouch and the speeds are very similar. I could have saved more than $100. I should have kept the $100 or bought more RAM for my old, but trustworthy, desktop (1 gig to 2gig --- XP). Both were easy to install and had good customer support.
It's not just Apple that's guilty. We do not need these high speeds. Not unless we're techies and IT pros. Save your money.
Oh, and running as hot as it does, I don't trust it to last (the E-1000 runs much cooler).

To be fair, many wireless routers now are as easy to hook up as basic cable. Simple simple simple.
This apple router is no exception, but its ease, quality of styling, range, and speed are nearly unmatched in my opinion. I bought this router, received it in the mail, and had a fully functioning wireless network with two appleTVs and two computers in about 10 minutes time. It is fast, and handles the workload of two media intensive AppleTv's easily.
Highly recommended wireless router.

My home network has never been better. Perfect router for a family with multiple online gamers and having both MAC and PCs computers on their home network. This was the best IT purchase I have ever made.
