Digital camera reviews of Apple Airport ExpressDigital camera Review: Works well, easy to set up Summary: 5 StarsAdded to my Audio WiFi Capability at home. Works like the other 4 that I have......
Digital camera Review: AirTunes is the best! Summary: 5 StarsI bought my Airport Express with some Christmas money this year (2009). I already have a good, functioning wireless router in my home that covers my entire home. I bought this unit solely for the AirTunes functionality, and it works great! After a quick and easy setup, I had AirTunes running in my home. From unboxing to up-and-running, a grand total of about 10 minutes. AirTunes saved me the trouble of having to lug my portable alarm clock to dock my iPhone on to enjoy music in my living room.
I haven't had a chance to try the USB printer sharing or actually using it as a standalone wireless router, but I'm looking forward to taking it with me this Feb. to a conference to use in my hotel room to secure my network connection.
All-in-all, a great buy!
Digital camera Review: Airport express is a nice buy Summary: 4 StarsToo bad i can't connect my pc directly to the unit, an extra network port would have been nice.
Digital camera Review: Easy setup, flawless performance so far. Summary: 5 StarsSo far I have added 3 Airport Express units to my home network: One serves a printer, one is connected to my home stereo, and one is connected to my home theater processor. I use Apple products only so didn't suffer any compatibility issues, and do have the latest 80211n wireless speed so streaming music to my home audio has been trouble free, even when there are other computers using the network.
I catch a lot of flak from friends who say it's silly to overpay for Apple products, and perhaps they're right. But it's important to me to be able to USE my computer, not muck about with a Windows based machine that locks up at the mere suggestion of a new network device. So far, after being an Apple user since the II+ and IIe, I've spent zero time troubleshooting their stuff. Zero. Because it works. I guess the trade off is you have to play on Apple's very tightly controlled playground, but I'm old enough and have enough experience wasting man hours on Windows rubbish to say: Fine. I'll play by your rules and pay a bit more for the privilege of having my stuff simply work.
All that rambling to say that this little device works just fine in a mac environment. Can't speak to whether or not it plays nice with Windows machines, but am not surprised to see people are having issues.
The streamed music sounds great, multi-room audio works, printing is instantaneous, and the Express is an unobtrusive little unit. Setup is terribly easy as always.
I recommend this device wholeheartedly for music streaming and wireless printing. In a mac environment!
Digital camera Review: Flawless Summary: 5 StarsPlugged it in, launched Airport Admin, told it to extend the existing wireless network (from our Airport Extreme), put in the password, and it just works. It even let our old iMac G4 get online via the Ethernet port (the iMac does not have WiFi built in).
Note: if you want to extend your network with this you'll need an Airport base station to extend.
