Digital camera reviews of Apple Keyboard Kit

Digital camera Review: Great keyboard! Compliments the Mac Mini nicely. No problem for a touch typist.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a Mac Mini recently, and I've been looking for a matching keyboard to go with it. The design and build is sturdy and well put together. I've owned it since November 2009.

Cleaning it isn't too bad if you keep your hands clean to some extent before using it. I never got around cleaning it yet, but running a cue-tip around each key should be the most sensible way to clean around it. Can't really say what will happen if you get it through the narrow crevices between the keys and the innards of the keyboard.

For those of you used to the regular Windows keyboards, the button setup is different on an Apple keyboard. New buttons to get used to are the Option and Command buttons. What this keyboard lacks are buttons such as insert, PrtScrn, Pause, the Windows button, and Num Lock.

As a touch typist, I was skeptical at first from the flat chiclet keys. I typically type at around 70-80WPM, and the first few days I was lagging around 40-50. I gave it a week or two of typing, and I am now typing at my fastest speed. It just takes a little getting used to, is all. Also, the keys are quiet while typing.

I would have chosen the wireless Apple keyboard, but they only had the weird tiny version. I wish they made a wireless version of this one with the numeric keypad, but a USB version is fine too.

Digital camera Review: Almost perfect for a PC too...
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this for use on my PC, not because I'm a Mac-wannabe, but because this is actually a really confortable keyboard to use. Plus it's super easy to clean, and takes up less space on my desk.

However there are a few things to note, some of which others have mentioned.
1. Missing a few key buttons, mainly a Print Screen button. This isn't a big problem for most people, but occasionally it can be an issue. It's also missing some buttons like Num Lock and Scroll Lock, but who really cares about those anyways?
2. On the Num Pad, the operators (+, -, * ,/) are in kinda odd places compared to other keyboards. The + button in particular is the size of a normal key instead of being double-sized, which, while it makes sense, is unlike every other keyboard I've used. This wouldn't be an issue if everyone had this keyboard, but trying to switch between this and the Num Pad at work can be frustrating.
3. The "Windows" key and Alt key are technically swapped (and yes I know this is an Apple keyboard, so this isn't really Apple's fault). It's not really an issue, and in fact I probably hit the Windows key less. But it just feels a little odd after dealing with them in their old spots for so many years.
4. This one is the main reason I still keep my old keyboard at hand. This keyboard doesn't seem to get power until Windows has fully loaded. So if Windows crashes (haha yeah...) and you get the prompt for booting normally or in safe mode, you can't select anything, as the keyboard doesn't yet have power. I have to plug in my old keyboard to select what I want. This also has implications if you dual-boot into another OS at startup, as you won't be able to select anything but the default OS without using another keyboard. Thankfully we have USB keyboards now that we can just hot-swap at any time.

I haven't tried this keyboard in *nix yet, so I can't comment how it works on those

Digital camera Review: Best Keyboard I Have Ever Used
Summary: 5 Stars

First off let me say this makes a great keyboard for both Windows and Linux users not just Apple users.

-------Pros-------
Very responsive
Very slim
Best construction quality I have ever seen in a keyboard
small/flat
two USB ports one on each side
Keys can be popped out and rearranged for the Dvorak style if you prefer it.

-----Cons-------
Expensive
Hard to clean and gets dirty easy

Digital camera Review: Compact Little Keyboard
Summary: 4 Stars

I switched to Apple after years of purchasing new operating systems every two years when I owned a PC. I like the Mac keyboard, sort of. It is pretty small compared to the huge one that came with my other computer. I liked the wrist rest on the old keyboard. Having made these comments, I admit that I am still getting used to the Mac keyboard. I make mistakes because it feels different. It is not as comfortable to use for long periods of time as the PC keyboard.

Digital camera Review: Is it me or is it the keyboard - Both
Summary: 1 Stars

It's a beautiful keyboard which I bought to use on my Windtunnel G4. I should have sent it back to Amazon. I can't type on it. It's worse than the keyboard on my black MacBook. Judging from the number of people who like the keyboard I may be one of the 5% who can't use it. However since I have not had problems in years past with the older Apple keyboards, I will fault Apple for designing a keyboard which isn't for everyone. I would have given the keyboard a 2 or 3 star review but the down arrow key has to be hit several times for the keystroke to register. It sits in a drawer looking beautiful because I don't have a coffee table.
