Digital camera reviews of Apple Mighty Mouse Kit

Digital camera Review: Garbage- but where's the competition?
Summary: 1 Stars

I LOVED this mouse for the first month. The ball only scrolls down now. No more up or side to side. It's been like this for a few years... but I've just lived with it until my comp died, so I'm shopping around. Unfortunately nobody seems to have come up with a clone that you can actually open up to clean! I'll probably just buy a click wheel, but I liked the features this had...when it worked!

Edit: By chance just read that the Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse has a tiltable wheel to allow side to side scrolling... making it the closest to the mac mighty mouse ([...]).

Using a Microsoft mouse on an Apple? Sounds like blasphemy... but I may just have to give it a try...

Digital camera Review: Good mouse, some quirks.
Summary: 4 Stars

The mighty mouse is an interesting mouse that takes some getting used to, but is a good choice because of its scroll ball. The scroll ball allows you to scroll quickly and accurately, not just vertically and horizontally, but at any angle. This is handy when working in applications like Photoshop, and or on computers with smaller screens. I much prefer the scroll ball to scroll wheels, even ones that allow you to scroll horizontally. It offers enough buttons for most users, and is good for left-handed users.

The mouse has a few quirks which keep me from giving it a 5. First, the scroll ball will get dirty periodically, causing it to stop scrolling in one or more directions. This is an annoyance, but can also be fixed easily by wiping the ball with rubbing alcohol. Second, the right click is a little counterintuitive and takes some getting used to. A right click will only register if no fingers are touching the left side of the mouse. This means you must lift your left finger while right clicking. You do get used to it though, so it's not a huge issue, and on the plus side, it keeps inexperienced computer users from right-clicking accidentally.

I would recommend this mouse to left handed users, and for users who are looking for a simple mouse and don't mind cleaning it occasionally.

Digital camera Review: Great Until It Gets Clogged
Summary: 1 Stars

This mouse came with my 20" iMac and worked great for a few months, until I could no longer scroll up or down.

Well, I cleaned it and it worked, for a week.

After a while of cleaning, using every method out there, I just could not get the scroll ball to work anymore. While it looks nice and works good for awhile, it will inevitably become clogged and you will be stuck with a half-functioning mouse.

I would only recommend using this if it came with your computer, but do not buy it! It will be a complete waste after only a couple months of use. Not a very durable product whatsoever. There are mice that look like the iMac mouse (which is what I have). Not only was it only $20, it seems to be a very durable product, unlike the "Mighty" Mouse.

Digital camera Review: Great deal!

This was a great purchase. It came on time, well packaged, and works just fine :) Thank you

Digital camera Review: Great design, decent comfort
Summary: 3 Stars

I initially had low expectations for the comfort of this mouse based on the true single-click Apple mice of the past, despite the design ingenuity of tilting a continuous surface to allow for optional right-click. The mouse actually fits my hand decently well, and the side buttons and scroll ball are comfortably within reach. And the cursor behaves well with this mouse.

This is likely by design, but if you right-click while both fingers are on the head of the mouse, it will not register. But if you lift your left click index finger while right-clicking, it works beautifully. If you were lazy about lifting that index finger as I was, you'll find that it enters muscle memory fairly quickly, so this won't be an ongoing issue. Still, it would have been nice not to require finger lifting.

The scroll ball turned out to be tolerable. When I first tried it out, I thought the vibration in a small scroll ball's movement felt strange because I had come from a history of Microsoft Intellimouse and Wheel Mouse Optical models with larger scroll wheels. The scroll ball gets physically stuck once a while (a little rarer) when scrolling in the down direction, and it usually corrects itself after trying to scroll the ball for a few more seconds.

I also suspect the gray ring on the bottom of the mouse collects dirt on the mousepad more easily, and it leaves dirt clumps on the mousepad surface. This was not much of a problem with other kinds of mice in the past.

The glossy surface of the mouse also turned out to be tolerable to the touch, although there are certainly more comfortable materials for the skin.

Besides the scroll ball quirk, it's otherwise a great mouse with an excellent visual design, and while there are more comfortable mice out there, this one's at least decent in that respect.
