Digital camera reviews of Apple Nike + iPod Sport Kit for iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, iPod touch 1G, 2G, 3G (OLD VERSION)Digital camera Review: Good Enough: Tall people beware Summary: 3 Stars
This product is really a gateway drug. It gets you interested in tracking your runs, and you eventually want to upgrade to a more accurate systems such as the GPS watches.
I loved that this product provides:
Spoken Feed Back
Easy Interface
Power Songs
Pretty Accurate at the calibrated pace.
My only issue with this system is that when I run faster this system really becomes inaccurate. As a taller person (6'5") my stride really increases when I pick up the speed. When this happens the system doesn't seem able to account for the extra distance covered. So for example one slow loop around the neighborhood can register as 2.25 miles while the same exact loop at a faster pace can register at 2.0 miles. My guess is that this is the case with all accelerometer based running tools. Calibrating multiple times didn't seem to resolve this issue. The approximations have been good enough for me though for the last couple of years and I would definitely recommend this product to anyone interested.
Digital camera Review: Good but don't count on its accuracy Summary: 3 Stars
Like several reviewers here, I like the Nike+, but I've found that its accuracy is not great all the time. I usually run on a measured track, so I've tried to calibrate it to be more accurate without much luck. As I pass a mile, two miles, etc. I check the Nike+ measurement, and its always short even after calibration The strange thing is often it will be short most of the run, and then at the end (eg., 5 mile run) it will be pretty close. My pace is pretty consistent too, so I don't think that is the problem. The reason I use it on the track is so I can record the workouts on the web site, which is excellent. If you're running out on the street and you don't have the path measured, the Nike+ is a good way to get a general idea how far you're running. I would say it's usually off by about 10%. If you want true accuracy, better get a much more expensive GPS system.
Digital camera Review: Good for me! Summary: 5 Stars
I just started the walk to run program and my nike + really keeps me motivated. I love it!!
Digital camera Review: Good motivational tool - website could use work Summary: 4 Stars
The kit works fine. Unless you're a hard-core runner or want to use GPS and upload your stats, you'll be happy with the results.
The website has always been a little slow and clunky, and I dislike the inability to manually input stats on days when, for whatever reason, either the iPod wasn't working or the sensor didn't properly work (which is rare). I think Nike could do a lot more with this site with a little attention paid to it: I'd rather have more stats and ability to manually input things - and ditch the too-cutesy little cartoon characters.
Digital camera Review: Great Idea Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this for my wife about a month ago. She is a runner and this was perfect for her. Have not owned it long enough to rate the battery life but for the price it would be worth it. I spent $29 which at the time was a decent deal on the nike +.
