I am not a techie by any means, setup was easy, and I like the box so far. I use it to display my digital photos with our music from itunes, great to listen to music with your our photos going by as a screen saver. We have downloaded several HD movies which is awesome, I think the movie rental and price is better than DirecTV, which we have also. The only surprise was with our 2.5M Internet service a HD movie takes around 2 hours of download time before you can start to watch, a standard movie takes about 5 minutes. I took the Apple TV out of the box, connected it as required and it recognized my wireless network right away. It even updated as soon as I hooked it up to my TV. I can listen to my music from my MACBook Pro since the Apple TV also acts as an Air Tunes receiver. It's great and the movie clarity (HD) is awesome. Apple TV (Take 2 software) and iTunes Rentals are just fantastic. I live in China most of the year and can suddenly enjoy legal content more conveniently and just slightly more expensive than pirated DVDs. This is a big deal. Plus I love how it auto downloads the newest episodes of The Daily Show for just 9.99$ every 16 episodes. Now, if Apple wasn't restricting geographic access by requiring US credit cards, this would put a huge dent into piracy. But what's wrong with you MPAA? You want to sue your customers instead of finding a good solution to getting them what they want? Ridiculously stupid. Anyway, the Apple TV is fast, convenient, let's me have all my photos, music, videos, TV episodes, movies all in one simple place with great seamless integration with my computer. The Apple TV is nice addition to any home theater. Having a "movie store" in a box is a pleasure. The quality of TV has gone down these days with all the overrated and simply boring reality TV taking over. So, being able to go for the blockbuster or family friendly movies; commercial free, is my idea of almost perfect. Apple's take on the situation is easy and high quality. This version of the Apple TV has a build in hard drive (160GB) that stores your movies. This is an added boon in my opinion, as I like to move it around the house and take it with me on the road. I have heard that this one supports 1080p and the new one is limited to no HDD and only supports a 720 HD signal. Not sure why they would down grade the tech.
In short I love the simple interface. It connects to my computer Windows PC or Apple OS X; with no problems. I can browse through my iTunes library, look at pictures, stream internet radio channels and watch pretty much every new release when they come out. Sometimes the movies are delayed for rental for the companies to make a buck, but that happens with all services in my experience.
This product is solid and stable and I would suggest getting these before they run out. The new version seems to be light on features and is missing the storage.
I highly recommend the Apple TV first version, MB189LL/A.
Digital camera Review: Apple TV w/ Boxee Installed Rocks!

The Apple TV as shipped is pretty cool. Makes for a nice media server and it hooks up easily to your HDTV, to your wireless network, and to iTunes.
But it gets great when you install Boxee. Then you can stream Internet video to your HDTV instead of watching on your PC. It looks great. Relatively easy to setup following instructions found on Gizmodo.
I'm very pleased with this purchase.
