Digital camera reviews of Apple TV MB189LL/A with 160GB Hard Drive [OLD VERSION]

Digital camera Review: Buggy
Summary: 2 Stars

I should have listened to some of the negative reviews here. I get more freezes requiring hard resets than a Windows 95 pc. Except it doesn't even have a power button - i have to unplug it every time this happens. Now it stopped working altogether (after less than 6 months of sporadic use). I will have to send it in to Apple.
I am a happy mac user otherwise, and i expect an Apple product to just work, especially an appliance-type device like this.
Also, i was disappointed to find out that, opposite to what i was told in the Apple store when i bought it, rentals are being made available very late (weeks after the brick&mortar video rental store release dates) and even then the selection is quite thin (i live in Canada).
Quite a disappointment altogether.

Digital camera Review: Buggy, expensive, closed, and now obsolete.
Summary: 1 Stars

This product is substandard.
Video def: 720p only. NO 1080p.
Frame rate: 60hz. Blueray can give you over twice that.
Video streaming is horrible. Slow slow slow.
Constantly disconnects from iTunes.
It is a CLOSED environment. Extremely limited. Will almost only play content from iTunes store. Will not play most of the common audio and video formats. If you have your own video files, maybe downloaded or from your video camera, check very carefully whether they will play on the apple tv. File type is not the only limitation. Apple tv will not play files where the resolution or framerate do not conform to it's limited specs even if the file type is supposedly approved by apple.

iTunes store:
Connection is slow. The servers are saturated.
Waiting time for content is absurd. Sometimes the DVD or BR come out months before.
It is buggy. Double downloads and sometimes the purchase disappears from hard drive.
THERE IS NO TELEPHONE SUPPORT. When something goes wrong, which it often does, there is no way to talk to a human being. Only ridiculously slow and ineffective email support. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

Digital camera Review: Changed my world, Youtube sweet!
Summary: 5 Stars

I wasn't too sure at first, but once I was connected, I saw how cool it was. Now I just download and watch. No subscription costs. Bonus of renting movies and watching whatever videos is on youtube, for free. The biggest thing since digital tv.

Digital camera Review: Completes The Digital Media Experience
Summary: 5 Stars

For some time I had looked at the Apple TV product and had wondered how I might use it with my already existing Tivo and Samsung BD players which all have ways to rent movies on them and Tivo already allowed me to play my music as well as view my photos from my Mac. That is until a friend of mine told me about the Apple Remote application for the iPhone which allowed me to control my iTunes music and volume right from my iPhone as well as Apple TV's ability to stream my iTunes music from my Mac using AirTunes. I also had another reason to look into using Apple TV product and that was I had shows that I was keeping on my Tivo and taking up valuable space but no way to archive them unless I wanted to put them all on DVD's using the Tivo Transfer and the Toast Titanium 10 application. Then I found out that I could archive and stream them from my Mac to Apple TV but I still had a challenge. Toast would only allow me to transcode them to the 640x480 resolution which is fine if I wanted to play that back on a 4x3 monitor or my iPod. I ended up finding an application called Pavtube HD Video Converter which can transcode Tivo files to be played back on a number of devices including Apple TV at 1280x720 which is the highest quality video that Apple TV can accept for streaming. After some trial and error I am now able to stream my archived Tivo HD and SD shows from my Mac to Apple TV over my wireless connection. Another benefit I found was that my family who are not very technically savvy have also really enjoyed using Apple TV for all the shared media as well.

Digital camera Review: DUPED
Summary: 1 Stars

I PURCHASED THIS PRODUCT WITH THE IDEA THAT WHATEVER IS ON MY COMPUTER SAVED IN A VARIETY OF FORMATS WOULD BE ABLED TO VIEWED MULTIPLE TIMES, OF COURSE WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE STUDIO OR OWNER OF THE RIGHTS. IT APPEARS THAT I HAVE PURCHASED A GLORIFIED JUKEBOX WITH AN ENDLESS APPETITE FOR QUARTERS OR DOLLARS. I WAS GIVEN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT IMPRESSION AND WISH THAT I COULD RETURN IT AND FORGET THAT EVER SAW THE SALE!!!!!!! BUYING A SEADATE OR WD SYSTEM THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE DRIVES IS SO MUCH MORE USER FRIENDLY.
