Digital camera Review: Does Its Job, But Why the Extra Cost?

This iPod AC adapter does its job well; it charges my iPod safely like it's supposed to. What I don't understand is why Apple no longer packages an AC adapter with their iPods. Well, actually I do understand why: $$$$$. When I bought my 4th generation iPod two years ago, it included an AC adapter. Thankfully I kept that adapter so I personally don't have to buy another one (this one is for my girlfriend). $30 for a simple adapter is ridiculous.
One nice thing about this item is that it does give you an additional USB wire so that you can leave your iPod's original wire with your computer, and not have to use it with the adapter since the adapter has its own. I wouldn't go with a non-Apple charger just to be safe, but man, Apple is getting a deal out of this product.

This is the Apple charger for iPods and the iPhone. I bought one because I needed an extra for the house and charging via the USB connection on my laptop just wasn't working out (close the laptop, and you turn off the power supply - I found this out the hard way).
A note to buyers - make sure you find the included USB cable. I was in a bit of a rush when this arrived at my door and I quickly plucked the charger itself out of the box and didn't bother to look for the cable. It ended up going out with the trash (I have extras) - but it seems like an easy thing to miss so just a word of caution.
If you need an extra wall charger for any of your iPods or the iPhone, this is it.

Bought this to charge our second generation iPod Shuffle. Doesn't seem to be published anywhere that you can do this but got the idea from the Apple store. You can plug the 2.0 USB plug that came with the iPod (for connection to your computer) into this unit and plug it directly to an outlet for charging. A little expensive? Probably. Saves the headache of running the computer everytime I need a charge though!

This came with my ipod when I bought it. It's nice to have around to charge your ipod if you don't have a computer around. Just plug it in and it'll charge the ipod in a couple of hours, and you can listen while it charges. Does what it says it will.
Having said that, I think it's kind of ridiculous that people are calling this a "must have". Obviously, it's not a must have, there's already a perfectly good way to charge your ipod. It's a handy thing to have around if you aren't always attached to your computer, and have an extra $30 that you don't have a better use for. If you are always going to have your computer with you when your ipod needs charging, then go spend your money on something else, because this gadget is pretty redundant.
