Digital camera reviews of Apple Universal Dock for iPod (White)(OLD VERSION)Digital camera Review: A Joke!? Summary: 1 Stars
I agree with most of the reviews in that this is a useless product, but I don't see what the big video confusion is all about. The Dock clearly has an s-video out which will allow video playback using any cheap s-video cable. I understand the concern if you want to use component cables, but why would you buy Apple's composite cable? It doesn't make any sense. Use the s-video out and you'll get your video playback without buying any extra Apple cables. Additionally, a little common sense goes a long way. Why would a $50.00 Dock w/remote include a cable that in itself costs $50.00?
With that said, the fact that the remote doesn't work and that the docking station can't even charge on a wall outlet is absurd. There should have been some sort of AC adapter included with the dock. There are $50.00 clock radios with ipod docks that can both charge ipods and operate them with their remote, so what is Apple's excuse for these lack of features?
Digital camera Review: And that's one star too many! Summary: 1 Stars
I'm glad I didn't waste my money on this thing (rec'd it as a gift). $50 for a "remote" that won't turn the product on...remotely!?! And "you can't use the remote to choose a different playlist." Huh? Oh, and a Menu button that's apparently there for decoration, since it is "for use with other Apple products." What other Apple products? The last time I checked, my new iPod Classic IS an Apple product, and not a cheap one! So why doesn't the remote's Menu button work?!? I recently bought a Sony radio with a built-in docking station, and even its remote allows you to do everything you can do on the iPod itself. All these raves about Apple's iPods are well-deserved (LOVE my iPod), but someone really dropped the ball on this product, IMHO.
Digital camera Review: Apple new Idon't Summary: 1 Stars
I was thinking when I purchased this item "pay that extra" and get apple quality right. WRONG! Actually looking back at all my apple purchases it's the same trend. Pay a lot get back very little in return. From lack of instructions to no accessories "pay the as you go plan". Would it kill apple to include instructions for those are not technically proficient. I think apple and Starbucks coffee have a lot in common if you don't know what you want it's a long line to get what you want. If you don't believe me go to an apple store and wait for all the eye rolling as you seem to bore them with questions. When I purchased my first iPod at circus city no one could tell me how to use it but offered me at the time a 50.00 step by step tutorial offered by apple. it seems with apple you get nothing for free or cheap not even instructions. The universal docking station is a joke at best and typical of apple and there greedy mentality. Volume control is all this item is good for.
Pros: more cheap plastic inserts
Cons: No cables to connect it to your computer or entertainment device such as stereo, radio, and home entertainment center. Remote only controls volume and forward and backward THAT'S IT. You have to use the menu on your iPod to go back and change your selection a very hard thing to do considering it still attached to this brick. It's like when you go to a gas station and need to use the rest room and the clerk hands you a key attached to 300 lb tranny.
Big time cons: You lose full volume control if you switch over to other listening functions on your computer I found you have to disconnect it and reconnect it to get the volume control back. Every time the IPod stays connected to the computer when it goes to sleep it and it comes back it starts to re sync even if the computer goes to sleep for five seconds. NO INSTRUCTIONS!
Digital camera Review: Apple sucks Summary: 2 Stars
Seriously Apple is a PITA. The menu button is completely useless when using this with my iPhone. You can't change the artist, album, playlist ect.. literally if you press the menu button it doesn't do anything. It would also be nice if I could program my universal remote for the dock then I wouldn't have to worry about lossing the tiny remote. Other than that it works great with the usual super fast shipping for J & R Electronics.
Digital camera Review: Apple's website lies! Summary: 1 Stars
I agree with the above reviewer (Aaron) for the most part, with the exception of his statement that the product does what the description says. It does what the Amazon description says, but the Apple website claims that the product allows you to watch videos through your TV if you have composite or component AV cables. It does not. If you want to use it to watch videos you have to have a set of apple's AV cables, which work fine on their own. All that can be said about this dock as far as video is concerned is that it does not disallow video out. A lousy waste of money.
