Digital camera reviews of Apple Universal Dock for iPod (White)(OLD VERSION)

Digital camera Review: Limted use, but useable
Summary: 3 Stars

After reading the many negative reviews about this product, I decided to go ahead and buy it anyway. BUT, I got it used for $20, which is about all it's worth. I wanted to hook up my Iphone 4 to some powered speakers I had, and be able to make some limited adjustments with the remote from across the room. Well, "limited" is exactly the functionality that the dock and remote enable. All I can do is adjust volume, fast forward through a song, skip and pause. Since this is all I really needed -- and understood in advance that this is all it could do -- I'm happy with the purchase (though it would be REAL nice if I could switch playlists, but the remote doesn't support this). I already had an extra Iphone power cord and the right cables to hook to my speakers, so didn't have the additional expense others incurred. But for the full $50 retail price, it seems Apple could have / should have included a power cord. I agree with the other reviewer who said it's no surprise that Apple doesn't permit reviews of this product on their site. Bottom line is that it performs the functions Apple says it will, but those are limited and come at a high price.

Digital camera Review: MENU BUTTON DOES NOT WORK..!!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this apple universal dock..and I am very disappointed...the menu button does not work at all...I tried to write a comment in apple web site but they have disabled the write a comment option...!!Very disappointed with apple

Digital camera Review: No menu functions, expensive
Summary: 2 Stars

This dock is way too expensive for what it offers. Especially since you have to buy cables to go with it.
You're better off just plugging the cable into your ipod and foregoing the remote. or looking for a cheaper alternative.
I bought this for use with my ipod touch. once you start to play something you can really only pause, skip forward and back, and adjust the volume. You can't change playlists, bring up the menu, or anything else really.
Also, you can't control Pandora with it.

Pros - Stylish
Remote Control

Cons - Must buy cables
Very limited remote control functions
there are cheaper options out there

Digital camera Review: No sir, I don't like it...
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm new to Apple products. Just came over to iPod from a Zune and I was really happy until I bought the iPod Universal Dock.

First, I opened the box and there's no user guide in there, just a warranty booklet in 30 languages. I couldn't even find a manual on Apple's website! Unbelievable.

I guess I'm flying blind.

So I dock my iPod Classic 80, hook up my sync cable, connect it to my PC and hook up the (not included) audio cables to the mixing board in my studio. iTunes on my PC shows connected and it's charging. So far so good.

I ejected the iPod in Windows so I can test drive the remote. I push the buttons on the remote. Nothing. I figure I must need to put a battery in it, so I refer to the man... Nevermind, I'll figure it out eventually.

So I read some forum posts and reviews, and eventually learn what Mr. Gleason states above: You cannot navigate the menu system with the remote! I must ask the question: What good is having a remote if you still need to use the iPod's front controls to operate the device?

It would be awfully nice if the backlight-off timer would disable itself when the iPod is docked.

The dock only comes in white. My iPod and practically everything else in my studio is black.

I'm sure I'll come up with some more gripes. Needless to say I'm really unhappy. I think this is going back to the store.
