Digital camera reviews of Apple Universal Dock for iPod (White)(OLD VERSION)Digital camera Review: PU!!! Summary: 1 Stars
I usually have very good luck with electronics but this Apple Universal Dock is a waste of time and money. I ignored the reviews by R. Arrighi "everything apple' and Kevin Shapiro and paid the price. I enjoy my iPod but will go elsewhere for a dock. I suggest you do likewise.
Digital camera Review: Poor functionality + faulty product in my case Summary: 1 Stars
I agree with the other reviews of this product that the remote functionality does not do what I would expect and anticipate based on the product descriptions. In my case, I could also not get the unit to allow me to play video from my iPod Touch Gen 2 to a TV. If I connected the composite A/V cable (yes I had to buy this separately) directly to the Touch it worked fine, but when I docked the Touch and connected the cable to the dock it would not tranmit video. After 30 minutes on Apple's tech support line, they also agreed and I am in the process of returning it. Maybe this is just a weird case.... One way or the other, the dock is basically a glorified stand for an iPod. Save your money, buy a cable (available anywhere), and live without the virtually useless remote.
Digital camera Review: Problems with Apple Universal Dock Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this product a little over a year ago and after 9 months its internal connections failed and it no longer delivered sound. It was replaced under the one-year warranty and the same problem recurred three months later. In testing to locate the problem I soon saw that all my old docks still worked (even with the iPhone3G for which they were not supposedly adapted) and that I could also just plug in the iPhone or iPod to my Bose system using the standard power feed and line out, i.e. by removing the Universal Dock as middleman but plugging its connections directly into the iPhone or iPod.
For the price of this dock one only gets, when it works, two things: an upright iPod/iPhone and the little remote. Since one has to be close to the device anyway to see the screen, neither of these features makes this product worth the rich price Apple has put on it. This product is not up to Apple standard.
Digital camera Review: Remote use doesn't allow menu functions. Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this in hopes that I wouldn't have to cross the room every time I wanted to change the video on my ipod classic 80gb connected to my television by a $50 component a/v cable I also bought from Apple. Instead, the only functions available via remote are pause/play (and I have to cross the room to press play in the first place), volume control, and fast forward/rewind. Oh and I can skip to the next song if I'm on a music playlist. The menu button on the included Apple Remote is useless.
Digital camera Review: What generation? Summary: 4 Stars
This device works very well at what it is designed to do. The problem is that with my particular generation of ipod, it will not recharge. All of the other features work fine, but the ipod is running on it's battery. This isn't a problem for me, because, during the course of a day I use my ipod in at least two other locations that do recharge it. I appreciate the fact that Apple is continually upgrading their products, but their system of identification makes it very difficult to determine what is compatible with what.
