I tried this little adaptor in my iphone 3G to connect headphones, looks like it is going to work but once you try it you realize the sound quality is horrible, it is not the same sound you would get with the original iphone cable. I got this product thinking it would be able to replace the existing recessed jack extension plug that I used in my car to play songs off my iPhone. However, the problem with these jacks are that they have 4 sections on the male jack (left, right, ground and mic). So what happens is that iPhone thinks a mic (iPhone's original earphones with mic) is connected when you plug this in. So if you have to pick up a call while driving and listening to the song, you'll have to either disconnect the phone or put it on speaker mode as you'll only be able to hear the other person talk, and your voice will not be transmitted. This is because the internal mic of the iPhone thinks that there's headphone mic connected.
Instead of this Belkin has a product that can do this job. It only has 3 segments on the male jack, hence shorting out mic to ground and making the iPhone's internal mic work. [...]
