Digital camera Review: A Novice reviews IPod Classic 80G Summary: 5 Stars
Having never owned any type of instrument like this, I was pleased with the ease of use. However, I MADE MANY MISTAKES AT FIRST. IApple iPod classic 80 GB Black (6th Generation)iPod & iTunes For Dummies, 6th Edition + DVD (Side by Side Bundle Version) (For Dummies) HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE PURCHASE OF IPOD FOR DUMMIES.
Digital camera Review: A believer at last.... Summary: 4 Stars
I have been a PC guy for most of my computing life and recently switched to a Mac. I bought the Classic when it became available and am amazed at its ease of use, user friendly interface, capacity and most of all the quality of the sound that it plays. I am very picky about my music and until I bought the Classic I thought my Zen was a good player. This player puts the Zen to shame! It works seamlessly with Itunes and is all in all a great player. The only thing that I can negatively say about it is that when switching between playlists/songs etc there is a lag of a few seconds that takes a bit of getting used to but I guess thats the difference between flash memory and a hard drive. Other than that little quibble, the Classic is the way to go if you have a pretty good sized music collection. Set up was a snap and there were no issues with the OS. Another winner from Apple!
Digital camera Review: A big disappointment! Don't buy Summary: 2 Stars
Unfortunately this iPod has been a big disappointment for me. I am giving two stars only for its storage capacity of 80GB. It can play MP well but it is not able to handle photos and videos to the extent it can handle MP3. Apple is perhaps over rating this. The iTunes software sucks, unless you have a backup of all your photos and videos it is not worth putting in iPod and it occupies lot of space in the computer for synching. I have to look for some other better media player in the market or wait until one arrives.
Digital camera Review: A couple of steps forward, and a couple of steps back Summary: 4 Stars
There are a number of in depth reviews detailing the problems and improvements of this iPod over its predecessors, so I will be relatively brief. I previously owned a 4th generation iPod, and bought this model after my prior version was involved in aquatic accident. Before that, I owned a Creative Labs Zen Xtra (an excellent digital music player).
Overall, I'm fairly happy with the device. The sound quality is decent, and the battery life is a big improvement over my last iPod. The ability to download pictures and videos onto the device is also a nice touch, although the screen is small enough that this is more of a novelty than anything else (I get a headache watching anything longer than 20 minutes). The screen is very bright and is still somewhat readable even in direct sunlight.
There are two major downsides. First, the click wheel is not nearly as responsive as the one on prior versions. Scrolling through artist or album lists is a chore. The software allows you to skip down the list alphabetically (jumping directly from A to B to C) if you scroll down fast enough, but this feature seems to activate randomly. Sometimes I have to scroll for 15 seconds to get to the T's, and sometimes this feature will activate and almost instantly take me to the end of my artist listing as I quickly scroll through the alphabet without realizing what has happened.
The second downside is the unresponsiveness of the software. It can take up to five seconds for an album cover or covers to load after selecting an artist or a song. During that time, the iPod controls will not respond. This can be frustrating when you are trying to quickly select a particular album or track, and downright annoying if you are trying to adjust the volume after selecting a particularly loud song. Other reviews indicate that this can be ameliorated by disabling the "view album artwork" feature, but this would take away some of the visual appeal of the device.
Despite these problems, I am pleased with the device overall. The screen has held up very well despite the rigors of daily subway travel, the sound quality is acceptable, and I usually only have to recharge the iPod once every week or two. I would definitely consider another iPod if anything happens to this one.
