Digital camera reviews of Apple iPod classic 80 GB Black (6th Generation) OLD MODELDigital camera Review: A word of caution to WMP users!!! Summary: 1 Stars
I haven't even charged my iPod yet and I came across a serious issue. I've never owned an ipod until now. I own a 4GB Creative Zen V-Plus and wanted to upgrade to more space and everyone told me how easy the iTunes software was to use. So despite my aversion towards the whole Apple attempt to monopolize so-called "free music", I prefer simple when it comes to my technology, so I gave it a shot.
Well, unbeknownst to me, all of the cd's in my collection that I bought legally, and ripped legally to Windows Media Player over the past few years, were done so in WMP's default .wma format, as it's more condensed and saves space. Even more unbeknownst to me, was the fact that the ipod software does not support protected DRM in .wma format. I discovered this when half my collection would not transfer and the message popped up saying "could not convert protected wma files to aac format". Now, I'm not the most computer savvy person, but I know there is no way to conveniently fix this, since I've come across numerous forums regarding this very issue. Awesome!!
How I didn't come across this while reading a plethora of reviews on the iPod and it's functionality, I'll never know. Maybe it's my fault for not picking up on this, but I'm clearly not the only person that has a WMP library of ripped songs in .wma format. My only options are to pay for some more confusing software to convert my library into mp3 format or rerip some 2000 songs! Thanks, but not thanks. Of course, I never noticed this issue because I had no problem syncing my music in this format with my Zen. Ugh.
So this is just a word of caution to anyone who is thinking of purchasing an ipod for the first time, and already has a Windows Media Player library full of ripped cd's in .wma format. Your tunes are useless with iPod. This may sound like a rare combination, but it's not! I told my co-worker of the quandry (he owns a samsung and was thinking of an iPod) and he too has a WMP library of music in .wma format. If I've saved some aggravation for at least one person out there, I'm happy.
Digital camera Review: AMAZING! (all the bad reviewers need to get a life and shut up) Summary: 5 Stars
This is an amazing ipod. I have had two before it and just love everything apple comes out with. Most compliaints begin with either a souchwheel problem, a software problem, or a video out problem which is stupid. The souchwheel is fine and maybe lags a little but it is breley noticceable and the only time it gets annoying is in games, other than that there is nothing wrong. Thee software was just updated to 1.0.3 and I am sure apple is on its way with more. Finally, is it really too much to get new cables or just buy/download a copy and burn it to a disk to use. I am shure all of the complainers have limewire.
The complaints are pointless, just get one and ignore them. Who really complains on amazon for stupid reasons? I can answer that, people without a life.
This is an amazing ipod and anyone would be happy with it.
Digital camera Review: AWESOME!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
My old 2nd generation Nano broke and I took a chance and bought this product. I absolutely love it! 5 stars all the way. I bought this item when it was on sale $214 but it is so nice I would've bought it even at the current price of $250.
Digital camera Review: All I'll Ever Need........ Summary: 5 Stars
Been using the iPod Classic for about a month now. I'm completely amazed. Not to mention the insane deal Amazon has. 20 dollars below retail, no tax, free shipping.....A++mazon.
For starters it looks amazing. The front aluminum cover is similar to my old iPod Nano 2G (black) which by the way repels scratches like a champ. The back is the dust/smudge/scratch/ collector which made me invest in a black leather folio case.
80 gigs really comes down to ~74gigs right out of the packaging. Which is a bummer no doubt. But thats a universal hard drive conspiracy of its own.
I love the coverflow option. Start downloading your cover arts now because it is a beautiful new feature. It's a little sluggish at first but it's not as drastic as some of these reviewers make it out to be. Coverflow is a nice way to browse through your album collection to find something that you would miss on a 2 dimensional typed screen. It's not for speedy gonzales trying to move from ABBA to ZZTOP in 3.5 seconds. I mean come on....It's a hardrive, even my computer lags a little when I run coverflow in iTunes.
The movie/music video aspect of this is great but I wont be using it much. I put one movie on it (Blow with Johnny Depp) and it plays beautifully but for me the screen is too small to watch a 2 hour movie on. I also believe music videos/MTV/VH34 are fake, marketed pieces of trash that should be banned because they are destroying music and everything that it stands for but thats another story.
I like how you can now shuffle songs/albums straight from the now playing screen, but how come you can't "Repeat". Whats up with that? Hopefully that'll be an update.
The 3 new games are nice, will I ever use them? Not really. I might let a nephew mess with them during church or something but that wasn't a selling point for my purchase.
Calendar, Clock, Notes, Contacts, Alarm are great. I just wish there was a way to type in screen. I wouldn't write a novel on the iPod but it'd be nice to be able to save a name, number, on the go....
Anyways the best thing about this device is being able to hold my entire music collection in the palm of my hand with a stable, reliable player. One thing I haven't mentioned is battery life. Which will probably be an update to this review later because I haven't had to recharge this yet. (I'm constantly adding music and making changes to songs, artist, albums...so I havent drained the battery yet)
Top of the line. I'm satisfied.
Digital camera Review: All my music, all my Mythbusters, all my movies, still 16gb! Summary: 5 Stars
My 80gb classic has been great. I have over 6 DAYS of video on it and all of my music and it still has about 16gb to go. When it was about 3 months old, the drive hit 40gb and refused to go any further, not one MB. I took it to the apple store, they reformatted it, still the same problem. Took it back again, they replaced it. Flawless ever since. I use a JBL mini on stage with this and it works great. I have a pelican hard case for it and it has kept it in absolute pristine condition. I made an adapter with a couple of radio shack parts that allows my ipod to run off of an Energizer portable DVD player battery and charge off of it as well. I recharged the ipod 5 times off of the DVD battery and it's charge indicator NEVER WENT DOWN. I would have chewed my own head off to escape while stuck in an airport for 10 hours were it not for this device. I really cannot say enough nice things about it. I would also recommend the following to make the most of this Ipod.
1. Get Magic DVD Ripper. It will convert any movie to MP4 for your ipod.
2. Get the Pelican Hard case. Indestructable and water tight. You can listen to it while the case is sealed through an external jack.
3. The JBL mini on stage will let you play music and video without earphones, great for when you just want background music or sound while working.
4. Get a good set of noise cancelling headphones. You won't believe how much nicer they sound than the earbuds and how much nicer a flight or car trip is with them.
5. Go to Radio shack. Get a female power jack in the electronic parts department. Get a female cigarette lighter socket. Solder the socket to the female power jack (make sure you have the polarity right!!!) Get an Ipod cigarette lighter plug. Plug your portable DVD player battery into the female power jack (you have several options to buy, match them with the plugs that come with the DVD battery). Plug the ipod cord into the cigarette lighter plug and into the ipod. Even though my DVD battery is 9.6 volts, the ipod will still charge from it and run off of it, for days if necessary. This may seem like a lot of fuss, but when you are far from outlets and vehicles as I often am, it will allow you to be completely self contained for a very long time. There is little that I hate more than boredom, and this has spared me from it.
6. It comes with the games Klondike, Vortex and I-quiz. I have added Tetris and Bejwelled 2 and love them.
I am currently experimenting with a pair of virtual reality glasses and will let you know how they along with this ipod work out. I think that with the two combined, I will have a tremendous entertainment system that fits into a small pelican case.
This is without question the best gizmo I have ever bought.
