Digital camera reviews of Apple iPod classic 80 GB Silver (6th Generation) OLD MODELDigital camera Review: Best MP3 player available Summary: 5 Stars
I've tried all the competitors first, I've had a Sansa Connect, Sansa E260, Microsoft Zune, Sirius Stiletto. While all are pretty good at some things, the ipod is just the best all around mp3 player available. Easy to use and navigate and has all the essential features, EQ, sleep timer, cover art, pictures, videos, games, easy podcast management. Plus the iTunes Store has pretty much everything imaginable, although some of the stuff you can get a little bit cheaper on Amazon's MP3 store.
If you're looking for an MP3 player, you can't go wrong with the ipod. Easy to use for everyone, not just technophiles. I even got one for my 60 year old dad as he travels a lot, and he loves it.
Also, the ipod has the largest support from 3rd party accessory makes for things like cases and even in-car listening options and integrated head units.
Digital camera Review: Better than I expected! Summary: 5 Stars
Let me say this from the start. I am not an Apple fan-boy. When I started researching high capacity media players, I decidedly did not want an iPod. My reasons, I did not want to pay a premium for the "brand name", and I did not like what I had heard about Apple "bricking" people's hacked iPhones when they performed service updates. What I initially wanted was the (now discontinued) Creative Zen 60GB M Vision. My wife has a 20GB Zen Sleek Photo, which I really liked a lot. So, why did I reluctantly go with the 80gb iPod Classic in the end? Audible.com was offering a promotion at the time that took $100 off the price of the iPod Classic when purchased through Amazon. I could not pass that up, even if it meant joining the crowd and supporting Apple. And, I am not sorry in the least!
The 80GB iPod Classic is a really great player! I have to hand it to Apple. I can see now why they corner the market on hand held media players. It's because they (by far) make the best ones! The interface is so easy and visually pleasing. Coverflow is the coolest way I have seen to browse albums on any player. The battery life is very good! I use my iPod mostly when I exercise, and I only have to recharge it after many hours of use. I have found that dimming the back light helps with this as well. This player is so sleek and small. It is noticeably lighter and thinner than my wife's 20gb Zen. I also like Apple's normalization feature "sound check" (listed in the settings menu). Rarely do I have to lower or raise the volume while listening to my iPod while this feature is engaged. But if I do, the scroll wheel makes it easy without having to even look at the player while I adjust the volume. I love that!
A couple things to note.
1. The ear phones that come with the iPod Classic do not do the player justice. If you are willing to shell out $250 for a high capacity media player, I suggest you also invest in the best earphones you can afford. I use Etymotic Research's "ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones". They run about $75 at Amazon! I have reviewed them separately. But, I will tell you that I encode all my mp3 files at 256bps (twice the 128bps standard), and my music sounds crystal clear and bright with dynamic highs and lows through these earphones.
2. Buy a clear screen protector and a clear case protector for the back of this iPod before you start using it. These things scratch easily! Protect your investment.
3. Lastly, my only criticism is this. Occasionally, my iPod takes a few seconds to respond. My guess is that the hard drive is busy. This is not a big deal, but it does happen.
In conclusion, I would recommend this player without reservation or hesitation. I love it! Rarely have I been as pleased with, or gotten as much pleasure from a piece of consumer electronics I have purchased.
Digital camera Review: Better than the 5G Summary: 5 Stars
No outstanding improvements from the 5 and 5.5G but still an excellent purchase. I did notice it seems to process faster and the battery lasts longer. I wish I could be more specific but I don't normally watch videos or movies on my iPod so I don't have a very good estimate. The CoverFlow is ok but most of my album covers were missing and I haven't figured out the rhyme or reason behind that. With the new Apple merchandise, iTouch, iPhone, $235 is a very reasonable price for this, so if you don't have to have the absolute latest in technology this is definitely worth the purchase.
Digital camera Review: Better than the new ones! Summary: 5 Stars
This iPod is far better than the new iPods. It runs better, works better, is more durable, and the battery life is way longer! I would recommend getting this iPod instead of any other one. It may be a bit bulky, which makes for awkward traveling, but other than that, it's great!
Digital camera Review: Beware J&R for purchases Summary: 1 Stars
I had no idea there were different generations of the 80GB ipod, and J&R saw an opportunity to dump old inventory. My wife originally ordered the 30GB ipod from J&R through Amazon back in August. After much delay on the order, she called for an update on Sept 8. She was told by their sales person that the black was out of stock and so she asked if there was something comparable. He said he had an 80GB he could send for the same price ($249) - sounded to my like it was the new ipod.
That arrived in the mail the second week of September. Today, I walked into Circuit City to buy her the same 80GB ipod. I spent the same $249. I was shocked to see that the one I just bought is much thinner, lighter, the graphics are more advanced, and there are more games on it. It's a totally different ipod.
J&R did not inform my wife as to what they were selling her. They tricked her into thinking she was getting 80GB for the price of a 30GB when they actually sent her one of two (older gen) ipods they had lying around in stock, just when the NEW 80GB's hit the stores and the 30GB's were being discounted. The one they sent her is white with a gray dial, not silver with a white dial.
The ipod's themselves are wonderful, but beware what you're getting for the price when buying anything from J&R. They mislead and mis-inform people.
