Digital camera Review: 16G - Major problem

I'm leaving my original second review in place but adding a new note. As noted by many others here, the new Nano will only charge on your computer. It plays on other devices but will not charge, which hugely limits its usefulness and compatibility. My old charger? No good. My 400 dollar Alpine car stereo with the direct Nano input? No good. From reading here and at the Apple forums and from speaking to a customer rep, there are no 3rd party products that are compatible with this generation and this is explained nohwere ever by Apple, no warning, no nuthin'. Come buy our product, it's a Nano. Compatible with other Nanos? No but that's our little secret. SURPRISE! GOT YA!
The Amazon review editor won't let me change my initial 5-star rating, so don't trust it. What I really mean is 3 stars, but then that's not backwardly compatible.
I'm redoing this review, not for the sake of the couple of bored idiots who have nothing to do but troll for logical errors in Amazon reviews so they can post negative, name-calling responses, but because I had trouble with Apple.
I ordered the day they were announced. I got mine the same day the local Apple store got them. Very nice looking unit. A couple of glitches in the new iTunes, mainly it loaded new songs very very slowly when playing back music. This was a big step back from my last iTunes version. Otherwise things went ok until I tried to listen. The sound was out of balance, one channel almost dead. I looked into the headphone jack hole with a microscope and could see that the contact to the tip of the plug was either contaminated by something or had had the gold scraped away by some foreign object, probably during manufacture. Had it been tested the problem would have been caught.
Now my problems really started. My first customer service contact at Apple wanted me to return it for repair. Brand new out of the box bad and he wants to repair it. Then I would never have actually owned a new, functioning unit. I would have owned a refurbish, repaired unit. I complained and got passed up the chain.
Next guy offers a replacement but not until they have received mine. No way! They could stretch that out for a couple of weeks waiting to receive it and log it into their system. I complained and got passed up the chain.
The third person said she would "expedite" a new one to me and that meanwhile I should return mine. I got emails from Fedex and Apple with return instructions which I followed to the T, I took mine to Fedex Friday morning. It is now Monday afternoon and Fedex has not yet acknowledged receiving it. I called Apple again.
The first person in this 2-hour phone call said there was nothing they could do, I'm out of luck. It turns out that nothing was expedited except my phone call. They wouldn't ship until my return was in the Fedex system, so they claimed. This was not what that last person in the previous phone call led me to believe, so I assume she just chose her wording carefully to get my call to end.
I complained and was passed up the chain two more times. At the end of 2 hours an Apple rep claimed that they would ship me my replacement immediately. Meanwhile they would initiate a tracer with Fedex to find my return. I'll believe it when I see it.
I spent a total of 3 and a half hours on the phone with Apple over these two calls, much of it on hold. My guess is they try to wear you down, try to get you to give up and hang up and will only give you a break if you are persistent.
I stand by my original excitement for this product. They are the first MP3 player I know of with a 16 or 8 gig flash memory. I'm not so into styling but that seemed nice when I had my hands on it. Screen was bigger than my previous unit, although I don't use it for video, only audio. I have only experience with one other MP3 player besides the Nano and it was a nightmare to operate and load music onto. There are some drawbacks to the Nano and iTunes arrangement, but they are so easy to use, that it makes up for a lot. Although when I hung up the phone with Apple this morning, I wasn't thinking it made up for that.
