Digital camera reviews of Apple iPod shuffle 4 GB Silver (3rd Generation) OLD MODELDigital camera Review: Great Little Device! Summary: 5 Stars
This was not my first Ipod. I have had a 8g Nano (current gen) and a old white 20g Ipod. The controls were very easy to get used to. Took me 5 minutes of playing around with it. While I would have rather used my Shure earbuds I felt the sound on the headphones got the job done. For the price it was a great buy! I use it when I work out, go to social gatherings, or just wanna show it off. Everyone loves the simple but elegant design. It can hold quite a bit of music if you have iTunes convert higher bitrate songs to 128 kbps AAC. I highly suggest you get a silver one. Makes it easier to find for those who lose things easily.
Digital camera Review: Great for What It Is Summary: 5 Stars
I just set up the new ipod shuffle and I am very pleased. With all the negative reviews let me address some of the complaints I have read here. HEADINGS IN CAPS ARE WHAT OTHERS HAVE WRITTEN. My response follows.
1. HAVE TO USE THE INCLUDED APPLE HEADPHONES - Some people, myself included, don't care for the generic headphones that come with all ipods. They are uncomfortable and the sound quality is lacking. My personal solution is the relatively new Apple in-ear headphones for $79. They are compatible with the new shuffle and sound amazing for the price. I work out with them and have no problem with them coming out. Right now the generics and these are the only 2 options but it won't be long before there are adapters out there so you can use any headphone. More importantly though - you may be one of the many, many people who have no problem using the phones that come with every ipod. If that is the case you have no problem.
2. THE CONTROLS ARE AWKWARD - not true. They work very easily and are intuitive after just a few minutes. 3 buttons - 2 are simply volume up and down. The center button controls everything else: 1 click to pause and play, 2 clicks to go to the next track, 3 to go back to the previous track, hold the button to hear the song title and artist, hold it longer to hear the playlists and choose another if you like. Very easy to navigate even while busy working out or running.
3. TOO SMALL, EASY TO LOSE - how can I respond to this ridiculous complaint? Small is good; it's smaller than your thumb and weighs about nothing when clipped to your clothing. If this is really an issue don't buy it.
4. VOICEOVER SONG TITLES NOT NECESSARY WHEN YOU KNOW YOUR OWN MUSIC - So don't use it. Having it there has no negative even if you only use it very infrequently. Actually this is an amazing, unobtrusive, functional feature that will make me use the shuffle in place of the nano more often.
5. PREFER THE CONTROLS ON THE SHUFFLE ITSELF, CONTROLS TOO HIGH ON THE EARPHONES - I like being able to keep the shuffle tucked away and not look at it. Having the controls high on the headphones is a little bothersome at first. I was so used to looking at the controls but I quickly got used to using them without looking and find this freeing.
Some other points:
Durable - you won't damage this.
Small - not sure if you want to take it with you? Slip it in your pocket; it takes up almost no space.
Select From Playlists - a great feature available for the first time in an Ipod Shuffle.
And it holds 1000 songs.
Digital camera Review: Great for workouts... Summary: 4 Stars
I own an iPhone, an iPod Classic, and now the new iPod Shuffle. Each product in the "i"Line serves a purpose.
I can't take my huge phone or iPod Classic on bike rides, jogs, or to the gym without looking like a dork carrying around a hard drive. So i picked up the shuffle.
This device is tiny, smaller than my thumb. It clips anywhere (I clip it to my t-shirt sleeve. When you turn it on, it just starts playing. You have to use Apple's headphones, that have built in controls. These controls are confusing at first, but once you figure out the navigation (about a half hour playing with it) you won't even need to look at the remote to pause, play, change songs, change playlists, or adjust volume.
This is not the iPod you want in your car, or in your backpack. But this is the perfect iPod for those of us who just need some music to work out to. It does it's job, and holds almost 1000 songs, which is amazing for something that is smaller than a Tic-Tac box.

Having had the new iPod nano for over month, I can say with confidence that I am very enthusiastic about it. I bought it partly for audiobooks and partly for music, so I needed an portable player that would have the following features:
(1) Memory of the playback position of an audiobook
(2) Shuffle, but without speech being mixed into the playback
(3) Multiple playlists with easy navigation
I also wanted to play protected MP4's and podcasts from Apple's iTunes store.
This iPod shuffle does everything above. The navigation is simple (triple-clicking is not as hard as it seems, and it's far better than having multiple buttons). It works great with audiobooks and podcasts. The remote control I have found to be very effective and useful -- I prefer it to having the controls on the device. (It also makes the device itself exquisitely small!) I believe it is the ONLY device under $100 that fulfils all these requirements.
The device has a single switch for on/off/shuffle, as well as a single port for the sychronization cord and the earbuds.
Not being a hardcore audiophile and not willing to purchase expensive earphones (and wanting to be aware of my surroundings -- no noise cancellation and no extreme volume!), I am absolutely fine with the prepackaged ones. It is possible, using the Scosche Polycarbonate case with integrated controls, to use better earphones while still maintaining control over the device. In addition, Apple sells high-quality In-ear Headphones that include the remote control.
I have never had a problem with malfunctioning due to sweat. I have taken hour-long walks in the daytime in summer. I have not sweated excessively or run marathons with it, so if that's what you expect to be doing, just get the iPod nano.
And -- if you want to be able to pick the exact song you want to listen to, go get the nano.

If you only want music with no video, this is great. The controls take a bit getting used to, but once you have them down, it's easy to use. Great for the gym.
