Digital camera reviews of Apple iPod touch 16 GB (1st Generation) OLD MODELDigital camera Review: 16GB??? Is Apple kidding??? Summary: 1 Stars
Apple really screwed this one up with only 16GB, when last year's top of the line had 80GB and now the classic has 160GB.
Digital camera Review: 400 songs, 12 movies, Photo Albums , Universities, and WiFi in my pocket Summary: 5 Stars
Beam me up, Scotty! (Actually, that command was not stated as such in any episode.)
In a pocket is this tiny device that holds twelve movies and 400 songs, automatically organized into albums when appropriate, along with WiFi capability.
The small sturdy stand allows one to prop it on one's lap, a bed, a table, and watch full-length movies that have incredibly good definition.
Or create personalized playlists of one's favorite music, be it Klingon Opera or Klezmer Hip Hop or Mozart or Bach, to play selectively.
Want to bore others with favorite photos? This little wonder holds photo albums, too.
This is a really sexy device, and can easily be attached to an inexpensive speaker system, the size of a paperback novel, to take a break from using any form of earphones or earpods or earbuds. Also, then, one can watch and listen to one's favorite romantic movies with his or her loved one.
With the advent of iTunes U., one has access to courses at prestigious universities, also, free of charge. Learn a new language, study quantum physics, learn to paint or play piano at an extra cost of $0.
Surf the web, save and file your favorite YouTube videos.
Personally, I prefer this to the iPhone (although that is quite nice, too) since it costs less, and holds more music and video.
A few improvements would be nice:
* a chime so that one can locate it when he or she cannot remember where it was last (mis)placed
* more memory,
* a harddrive.
* a scientific calculator
* other software
But the advantages far outweigh these minor disadvantages. It is not perfect; its grade is not 100%, but 99.9%, which is still an A+ .
Mixing metaphors, the touch screen makes one feel as if he or she has control of the bright side of the Force.
Digital camera Review: A Huge Step Forward Summary: 4 Stars
The iPod Touch marks a huge advancement in the digital media player market. It's simplistic UI and extremely fluid touch motions make using it very enjoyable. Unlike older touchscreen devices, you don't simply "click" on something. You can drag it rotate it, etc. as if you were physically interacting with it instead of just moving your finger across a screen. Flicking through huge lists of songs doesn't get old, and zooming in on a photo is always enjoyable.
The touch screen has it's downsides though. Since most people take their iPods with them wherever they go, you'll miss just reaching in your pocket and hitting "pause" or "next" without having to take it out. In the winter this can get quite annoying, taking your glove off your hand to turn the volume down isn't enjoyable. This isn't a problem with the touchscreen itself though, just a limitation.
Most people by now understand how to app system works. You can download them either from your computer or directly from the iPod Touch through wi-fi. The apps are what make the iPod Touch what it is. It takes the iPod to a level beyond a simple MP3 player, it becomes an appointment manager, game system, to-do list, internet browser, etc. In other words, it's almost like having a mini-computer in your pocket. As amazing as it all sounds, it does have limitations (which are again more of a result of the product's main use, not a design problem.) The internet browsing is decent, but I wouldn't want to do anything more than checking up on the latest sports scores or weather on it. It isn't meant to replace your laptop. Apps can be very helpful, but many times you'll have to pay a fee for some of the more popular ones.
Lastly, the design. The iPod Touch rests perfectly in your hands, and using your thumbs to navigate through the screens feels very natural. The all black front and chrome back is timeless, unlike some of the other, more colorful MP3 players on the market. That shiny back, like all iPods, is notorious for collecting an insane amount of scratches. I bought a cover for it called InvisibleShield, which has done an amazing job of protecting it without any added bulk (much better than the silicone cases which are thick, look bad, and collect dust.)
Overall, this product is one of Apple's biggest innovations to date. As technology gets more and more efficient, future models will only continue to get even better.
Digital camera Review: A cool ipod Summary: 5 Stars
If you don't worry about the price and smaller capacity this is the ipod to get. It is a great product a marvel. It is very thin and sports a huge screen. Most of the features it derives from the iphone and most of us know what the features are. The features like auto rotate cover flow work pretty well. The wireless works fine and I downloaded a full album from itunes.
Digital camera Review: A great addition to my life Summary: 4 Stars
I had resisted the MP3 player world until now. As it happened, I started a new job that got me out of the car and onto the bus. Unfortunately, I can not read on a bus, so what to do with all that time? Along came the iPod touch and as soon as I learned I can sync my Outlook calendar onto it I was sold!
Thus far I have only used it to listen to podcasts, which it does wonderfully, and read my calendar, which also works great. I also find the screen extremely readable, a rare complement from someone with aging eyes that have trouble with the microscopic displays on many other devices.
My one complaint thus far is with the wireless connectivity. Thus far I have been unsuccessful at connecting to my home wireless network, secured with WEP, and my work network, which apparently requires loading of key certificates and thus does not allow iPhones or iPod touches. I did get connected at a local hotel, but wasn't willing to pay the T-Mobile premium for their wireless service.
Bottom line: Highly recommended.
