I ordered the Apple 8gb Itouch for my son over the Thanksgiving holiday. Amazon, of course, was matching the aggressive pricing offered by Wal-Mart, Target and others by offering a $30 gift card with the purchase. Thus, the net price was $150. Also, with no shipping and no sales tax that gave further incentive to get it from Amazon.
My son has wanted one of these for awhile and it was a very hot item this Christmas. I understand that the 32gb models and the 64gb models have a slightly better resolution on the touchscreen (versus the 8gb) but I was very happy with what we have. For adults or teenagers that will use a lot of audio and music files it would, of course, be beneficial to move up at least to the 32gb model as that gives you either 4x or 8x more space.
Amazon is also an excellent place to pick up cases and other accessories for much less than at retail. I would recommend getting at least a car charger from radio shack or amazon as you only get the computer cable (that can charge through the computer) from Apple. You can, of course, select from a variety of CD players or clock radios that have an Itouch/Ipod charger to use overnight at home.
I especially recommend downloading audio CD's with included video (DVD if at retail) from Itunes as that gives you music and video together for one low price (like the new Shakira album). There are a variety of games also that look great in landscape mode on the Itouch (screen automatically flips when turned).

One day after i ordered my I-touch, Aazon put it on sale for $23.00 less than i paid for it. they did not adjust my price nor would they offer me a refund on the difference. I'm delighted with the iPod but have real issues with how Amazon.com shipped it. Basically the unit was thrown in a big box. There was no bubble wrap around the unit; nor was it shrunk wrapped to a backing board; it was left free to bounce around in the box for the whole journey. Thankfully the Apple packaging protected it and so far it seems to work. But I doubt I'll be ordering sensitive electronic devices from Amazon anytime soon.
