last week i had never heard of Archos before and I was looking around on amazon for a new toy because all I got for christmas was clothes and i saw and Archos 5 and I did some research on it found out that it was pretty much and Ipod touch for about the same price only difference was it had a bigger screen and 250 GB of memory so I decided to take a chance on this company that I had never heard of before.
when I got it I was pretty satified with the product the only things that i was upset about were that it takes forever to charge it because all they send to charge it a USB cable and they make you pay 20 bucks for new plugins
today I was messing around with some widgets(Apps) and when I turned my Archos on it said FAT problem and wouldnt let me do anything. so after having a psp for 2 years i thought o crap im screwd because i figured that FAT must mean it firmware and if your firmware is screwd up on a PSP your screwd but it turns out that archos makes every one of their devices with a built in recovery mode that was easy to use and in one hour my archos was fine.
And so i guess the point of typeing all of this is just to try and preswade some more people to buy this great product.

I have no idea who is writing praises for this company and/or this unit but they are either paid by the company or they have a rare unit that actually works! Customer service is farmed out to some very incompetent people, in Indiana I believe. They rarely answer their phones, rarely answer their emails, except perhaps some at 1 AM. Are these trolls? My first 250GB kept going back for repair, returning worse than when I sent it in. Finally I received a replacement but with no plug-ins. Tech support was to make the VERY EXPENSIVE plug-ins I bought available for the new unit for failed to do so. I paid close to $500 for the original unit, PLUS $60 for three plug-ins to get it to work as needed and it failed, many times. When I needed a fix under warranty, which actually made it worse, I had to pay for shipping. Archos should be embarrassed. I don't know what to recommend except that you should NOT buy Archos products. None - zip - nada.
To those of you posting who work for Archos - shame on you!!

I got the Archos5 250 GB. I love it. This are my pro and cons:
Pro: Is really easy to use. The sound quality is excelent, specially if you connect it to a P.A. sound system you will notice how clean the sound is. I like the web TV. You can watch channels from the web from different countries (lots of news, religious, sports, public and independent channels). And depending on the quality of the channel the picture quality could be very good. Connecting to UTUBE was quite easy. First i couldnt watch those new videos with flash player but you just have to open those videos on a new window and then you can watch them. The response of the touchscreen is ok but not as good as the I-Touch.
Cons: The 250 GB resembles more of a GPS. It is not flat. It is huge and heavy but remember is 250 GB on the palm of your hand.
Battery life: It really sucks. You may get 1.5 hour of video although they said is more.( Not way jose). This is where they need to improve big time. And this is personal but when I charge the Archos with my computer using the usb port the charge last for less time as if you charge it via the wall unit which is an extra device which I got here in Amazon for less than $35.00
The customer website could be better and more informative and maybe a live support chat although I have not encounter any issues so far.
I have not yet found the way to put on my movies on the Archos. But I guess is more because of the piracy protective code that comes with any DVD that will not allow you to first copy on the computer and them transfer to the Archos.The GPS will not work unless you buy the adds-on. (I would recommend to get your own GPS unit).
In overall other than the battery life I am very satisfied with my Archos.

This is an update in reference to Archos support team:
While watching a video on my archos a fellow came to say hello and hit my hand with a box and my Archos went rolling all over the floor. (you should it see my expression on slow motion trying to catch the Archos before it hit the floor) when finally landed on a cornenr of a cement floor, I knew that was it.
My fear become a reality. Archos did not want to turn on. I called the contact number from archos website and they create a case number, they send me an e-mail with that case number and I just have to send another e-mail with proof of purchase from Amazon. They send me instructions and how to send the Archos(Insured your Archos with UPS before you send it).
They send me another e-mail saying they receive the Archos and another one when they send it back to me.
Everything went smooth. I have my Archos back working like a champ again. Excelent customer care. Not issues at all.

I ordered this Archos b/c my 30GB 605 wifi stopped working. I love the sleekness as well as the storage on this 250 gb Archos 5. However, I do miss the buttons on the side of the Archos. It is going to take getting used to not having the buttons. I've only had it for a couple of months, but I love it so far!Digital camera Review: Archos 5 250 GB Great product!

Simple out of the box! connected to my wifi no problems.(am using now) downloaded all kinds of music and videos and pics no problems! you dont get a big instruction book with this but it is so simple and you can go to archos website. a bit heavy but thats no big deal, i just put this in my purse and go, i can see where it would be hard for a guy to carry around you would need a good size pocket, i am not interested right now in the addons, i spend hours on this watching web tv or videos or surfing the web, watching videos on you tube is also not a problem. what would have been nice is if they included the wall charger with this, it has not been a problem for me because everywhere i go someone has a computer and they dont mind me plugging it if i need to. Display is awesome. (make sure you update your archos.) I love this product, got a new computer for christmas and i am on my archos more! i will update from time to time good or bad but so far great.
