Digital camera reviews of Archos 6 GB Jukebox 6000 MP3 Player/Hard DriveDigital camera Review: Archos Jukbox 6000 Summary: 3 Stars
I have to give product a so-so rating. Using Windows 2000 software and a 500 MHz processor I had the following happen: 3 times I got the blue screen of death(hung computer) as i loaded MP3 files from the computer to the 6000. I found that I had to close all other applications and run the down load all by itself, and then things ran well. In using the 6000 I found the following; The battery life is about 2 hours of continues use. Replacing batteries is difficult and causes you to bend the housing to open the battery area. Some of the MP3 files were corrupted during transfer. I did not discover this little problem until I was trying to play back this one file. My most frustrating experience so far is that from time to time the 6000 just hangs/stalls during it's initial start up. It will not get past the first screen. I have found the only cure is to turn off the box and leave it alone for about 15 minutes and then it seems to come up just fine. When it runs it runs just fine and I like it. I decided to keep the unit(I was considering returning it) as I have figured out how to get around all of it's annoying bad habits. I am building an external power pack to get around the limited battery life.
Digital camera Review: Archos Jukebox Summary: 4 Stars
I would like to start by saying that I looked at every single review before I decided to buy the Archos Jukebox... This is my first mp3 player and I wanted one that could hold my entire mp3 collection...and it can! Pros 1. Installation - Very easy installation.. but i can imagine it would be very difficult for someone that isn't familiar with computers or electronics..im studying to be an engineer..so its not difficult for me =)2. Hard drive - It really holds almost 6gb but for some reason the hard drive feature on the unit isnt very accurate...it doesnt really tell how much room there is left..somethigs wrong with it 3. Size - Even tho i knew it was about the size of an index card it didnt really set in until i saw it!! its small about the size of the old walkmans Cons 1. directions- there arent alot of directions on how to use the machine, you really have to look and figure things out on the machine by yourself 2. construction - The construction of the machine is pretty [bad].. the main button is loose..which makes me worry...the batteries are terrible to take out..i tried once and i gave up...I read in other reviews that u shouldnt apply pressure to the back of the unit..so im not gonna try that! The seams on the unit are really big - a sign of poor construction. 3. SOUND - The sound is okay...not great...and I would have given it a 5 if it had great sound..! my old walkmans gave me better sound..and because of this..im trying to decide if i should return it and get the nomad instead. I mean..the sound isnt terrible its just under acceptable..with so many great songs on it...its sucks to be denied great sound! even with better head phones. it doesnt seem to make a huge difference. The bass and the treble control help somewhat but if turned up to high begins to have static, the same with the volume. It would be great if they could upgrade it..but they would need to add an internal subwoofer... 4. The unit heats up alot when its getting charged or connected to the usb port! its kinda scary. 5. battery display isnt accurate at all! Hope this helps you!
Digital camera Review: Archos Jukebox 6000 Summary: 5 Stars
First of all just to be fair i admit that i was really scared before i decided to order the unit. If you are thinking of buying the unit i don't blame you for being scared. With all of the bad reviews i read i thought ordering this unit is taking a really big chance! but then i remembered if i am not satisfied with the unit i can always return it to Amazon.comIf you are thinking of buying this player i have one piece of advice: When you get it, don't start learning by yourself but read the manual. I have had this player for a few days now and i can't tell you how satisfied i am! This unit is the best possibility out there. I'm going to list the pros and cons: First a lot of people complain about shortage of battery life, I uhave used this unit everyday since i got it, each day for about 8-10 hours and returned home with more battery power to spare. Battery life is not that short and i do browse around A LOT! The player itself is a little big and heavy, but for 6GB i think this is really a minor con. I carry it everywhere i go, and its perfectly fine it fits right into my jeans pocket. The headphone that are supplied by Archos have really bad sound, so i recommend buying a pair of KOSS headphones, or any other good quality headphones. Loading Data into the player is really easy. You just plug in the USB cable that is included, and start transfering songs by copying them from one folder to your Jukebox drive. The main Button on the unit is a little cheap, but it is also a minor con. I really have no problems with this unit. I read some reviews of other people who had a lot of problems like, hard - disk failing and things like that. Maybe these people are doing something wrong, read the manual. A lot of people complained that they want a remote control, well, you could get one at the archos website. I decided to wait and see if i really need a remote, and i'm still thinking about it, but i think i don't need one because all of the songs that i load on my player are songs that i downloaded and i like, so it doesn't matter what song is on i like it. I've been looking for an mp3 player for about 5 months. I looked at all kinds of mp3 players, Creative Nomad, Intel 128mb etc. and the only player who really caught my attention was the archos jukebox 6000, because of its cheap price and the fact that it has 6GB loaded on him. I have read people write that there is a couple of seconds pause between songs and that is true, but i think that again the pros outweigh the cons. A lot of people complain about the batteries, i say: why would you even want to take out the batteries? When your batteries run out, charge them... I have loaded my entire cd and mp3 collection and still have room for A LOT MORE! Also, this player is a pretty strong player, it fell out of my hand twice, pretty hard, and nothing hppend! it kept playing!! A lot of the people who complain about the sound are people who probably didn't replace the bad headphones that come with the player and therefore have bad quality sound. I hope this review was helpfull to anyone who is thinking of purchasing this player, and i recommend it to anyone who wants a lot of memory for a good price. I almost bought the Creative Nomad IIMG with an expansion card for alltogether $400!!! boy i'm happy i didn't buy it. If you have any questions plaease feel free to e-mail me at: hilel@optonline.net
Digital camera Review: Archos Jukebox 6000 - Not quite ready for prime time.. Summary: 3 Stars
Got it for Christmas and ran it through the test. Here's how I see it.. POSITIVE SIDE---- SIZE - Really does fit in the palm of your hand. WEIGHT - Just right. Don't think this type of product could be much lighter. Case is 99% plastic. LOOKS - Definately a 10 on the "HIGH TECH" look.. Lots of Ohhhh's and Ahhhh's.. SOFTWARE - Didn't need it, just used it like a harddrive and dragged 20-30 mp3's on it and listened.. NAVIGATION - No problem once I figured it out.. USB - Driver installed easily and computer recognized JUKEBOX each time it was plugged in.. BATTERIES: Important change - Now uses Nickel Metal Hydride which the manual now says gives 8 hours of playing time. Also came with an extra set of batteries. NEGATIVE Aspects: USER MANUAL: Confusing because there were many changes to the final product that didn't jive with what was in the manual. Not really enough information for a $350 piece of equipment. HEADPHONES: Not bad looking but really cheapened the product because of their poor quality. SOUND: This is probably the biggest heartbreak for me because I really wanted to love this player. If you don't like ANY bass and prefer a MEDIOCRE midrange then this is the player for you. The headphones contribute to this but I tried 3 other sets of high quality headphones ($30 to $600) and got the SAME results!! Oh well... If the sound could be improved upon I would keep the player.. But alas, I will be returning it and waiting for something with a little more (lot more in this case) bass and sound control. I really like everything about this player except for the what I feel is the most important aspect. THE SOUND QUALITY..
Digital camera Review: Archos Jukebox Short On Sound Quality Summary: 4 Stars
OK, for anyone interested, I thought I would post my initial feelings about the Archos Jukebox 6000. Some good some bad, with one really major problem. First the major issue...the sound. Anticipating the Jukebox taking a while to be available, I purchased the Phillips Expanium MP3-CD Player. Great sound, great bass, very deep full sound all the way around. So last night I compared the Jukebox to the Expanium as far as sound quality goes. The Jukebox sound was no where near the rich tones and fullness of the Expanium, especially when using the Expaniums "DBB" bass option. After tuning the Bass and Treble and playing with the Volume, the Jukebox still sounded really "tinny". The music had little depth and hardly any Bass. I hooked it up to the Boosteroo I have (an in-line amp)and though that helped a little, it was still very tinny sounding. I used five different sets of headphones I have for different applications, all performed great on the Expanium, all sounded weak and tinny on the Jukebox. I am very dissapointed in the sound in this Jukebox. The coolness factor is undeniable, transfer rates, ID3 Tag scrolling, and all the other technical factors are really top notch, but IMHO, the reason I bought this was because I love music, and for reasons of sound quality, I will have to think long and hard about whether I return this product, as much as I love the other aspects, because the sound quality simply is not up to my particular standards. Carrying a few RW discs around may be a drag, but the quality of the sound in the Expanium is vastly superior to the Jukebox, again IMHO.
