Digital camera Review: Awesome PMP

After testing the Archos 605 wifi for a few weeks, I can say that it was a great purchase. The large screen is excellent for viewing photos, videos, and perfect for surfing the web. With the internet plugin I was able to connect to my home wifi network and also surf the web in the airport.
The speaker on the Archos is one of my favorite features. The touchscreen works great, but accuracy is key. Use the included stylus to press the small keys.
Battery life is average, but charging is fast with the optional mini dock/ DVR dock/ or external battery dock.
Overall, this does everything the ipod touch can do and exceeds those standards set by apple.

A great product. I have had mine for about a year now. Sure there's the intial cost to get over when you include the add-ons. But being able to put just about any file format on it pays off in the long run. At 30 Gig, I usually carry about 40 1hr tv shows, about 10-12 movies and at least 100 mp3's. While the speaker isn't always as loud as I would like, that can be remedied with either headphones or increasing the volume when converting the file.
I would very much like to upgrade to the newer Archos 5, but I couldn't be happier with this product. It did have some locking up issues in the beginning, but I learned how to avoid them. Lock-ups are easily fixed by hitting the reset button on the bottom of the unit. Actually started carrying around a paperclip for this purpose. Lock-up's usually occured when first turning on the unit. If you remember to hold the power button for at least 5 seconds, this usually does not happen. Also, power the unit on before plugging it in to charge. With the two tips alone, I have gone many months without a single lock-up.
As for quality, the picture is top-notch. There are different display setting you can use. There's also the parental options available. You can effectively protect all your content from being viewed by anyone else with access to your Archos.
If you have the means and want a great portable media player, this is the one.

I purchased this item on July 27 2009. I wanted it because of all the videos that you can watch online with it. After a few days of playing with this I bought the web brouser plugin for $30.00 I had to contact tech support 3 times in 3 days to fix error codes,download problems,etc....On the 4th day I finally connected on to youtube to watch some videos. Well none would play so I called tech support. I was told that it will no longer play online videos because it has flash player light and all the video sites now are Flash full version. They have to wait for an update from Adobe before it will be corrected. Archos tech support said they do not know when this will happen. All I got was "were sorry".
This renders the Archos 605 wifi useless for any online use. This is FALSE advertising. All the websites state that you can watch online videos! This whole Archos line is a joke in my opinion!
Buy an Ipod touch...or small laptop...it makes better sense. To bad I found this out after investing over $200
Digital camera Review: Broke, sent it in, got it back, already have to send it back in

I got this thinking it would replace my iTouch which broke supposedly from water damage. It didn't. It worked well for about a week, but after that it started having a lot of problems. It would freeze, delete all my stuff (music, videos, etc.), and more. It broke to the point I could not use it at all so I sent it in after about 3 months of use. I sent it in to get it repaired (luckily it comes with a one year warranty) Unlike other companies, you have to pay for shipping. I shipped it in and waited for a month. I finally got it back, excited that I could listen to my music again. I couldn't. I turned it on and it was fine, but i tried connecting it to my computer and my computer said "there is a malfunction with this device". I called Archos and I was on hold for 10 minutes. Finally someone answered and they tried to help me. They didn't. They set me up to send it in again, but I didn't want to pay to ship it again since it should have already been fixed the first time I sent it in. They put me on hold for another 20 minutes and another person answered. They told me they would e-mail me a shipping label. So I have to send it in again, but luckily free this time. I bought the Archos 605 wi-fi for my daughter April 2009, and she has not been able to use the product. I was never able to connect to Windows Vista. I called customer Service and even though we reset the entire product, we were never able to connect. I was given a song and dance some free add-ons, but was unable to connect with Vista. I ultimatly got busy at work and let it sit. My daughter of course asked for the archos and I explained I could not get it to work.
I called archos again and finally they sent an RMA, I should have just returned the product. It may be a great product, but I can not tell you that yet as archos has had the product for the past three weeks. They have determined that it was defective and it was getting a new motherboard. If you decide to buy an archos and it does not work, return it asap
