I bought this from amazon because i wanted to use the wifi capability and be able to use it to put all of my music and video on. When i got it in the mail and opened it up i thought it was pretty cool. However, it was much larger and heavier than i thought. I debated for about a week if i should keep it or return it for the new ipod touch. the touch only has 16 gigs but it is much more user friendly, sleeker, and is much easier to carry around with you. So thats what i did, i'm satisfied with my choice, the archos 605 works great but is just too bulky for my taste. It does everything i wanted and has a huge screen ++++. I recommend it to anyone that doesnt care about the size. Also, it is a good deal for an 80 gig player!Digital camera Review: Bad UI, low sound - not worth it

I just bought this and going to return it.
The software in buggy - the USB mode (with the DVR dock) does not work.
The user interface is also quite crappy. No way to add all songs of a particular genre into a playlist - not way to search for a song (based on id3 tag).
video quality on the player is very good. however, when hooked up to a large TV, it sometimes seems that the frame rate is messed up and the picture is shaky.

I purchased the 80Gb 605 in Feb. of 2008 despite the reviews complaining of service/support after the purchase. This is a good unit..until it breaks. I sent my 605 in for a simple battery replacement Dec 10th,2008,was informed it would take 10 to 15 days to complete the repair and waited.The automated response to an RMA inquiry on the 29th of December indicated that although my RMA number was valid, my unit was not in the warehouse nor in shipping.Two calls to support and one email has left me with a promise to send tracking information..no such info as of Jan 7,2009. After receiving an email titled " Best MP3 Player you never heard of " I reasearched the Archos 605 MP3 Player. It was hard to find anything negitive about the 605. I purchased the Archos 605 about 1 month ago and now can confirm that it trully is the best MP3 Player on the market. There is nothing that cant be done with the 605, from Wi-Fi internet browsing to music to the best quality video of any player today.Digital camera Review: Best PVP-PMP- MP3 on this planet Earth

The first thing I did was fully charge my unit. Then I went to the Archos website, with my unit plugged into the USB port, and downloaded the latest software version for my 605 80 GB unit. Note: the downloads are model specific. My unit was instantly updated and I've experienced no problems whatsoever after nearly 60 days of constant use in the following areas:
surfed numerous websites - the Opera browser is flawless and easy to use
purchased the helmet cam and recorded several outdoor adventure videos which were of better quality than my Sony digital camcorder
linked unit with my PCs windows media player - instant transfer of all files
downloaded videos, movies, pictures, and music without a hitch
hooked my unit up to a JBL On-Tour portable speaker system...awesome full room sound quality
THIS IS A DREAM UNIT FOR A TECHNO AUDIOVIDEOWEBAPHIL - my term:)
