Digital camera Review: DVR Gen 5 605 WiFi 160GB Summary: 5 Stars
This accessory is very usefull charging my Archos a lot faster than the provided USB cable. The DVR also allows me to watch movies on my Archos on our big screen HD TV.I haven't tried to download any TV programs yet.
Only downside so far is the price:I thought was a bit high but all in all
I'm happy with this purchase.
Digital camera Review: DVR Station for Gen 5 Summary: 5 Stars
DVR Station for Gen 5 is great "Once you buy the program from ARCHOS", which is not included with hardware. It can record from from a TV, DVD, RGB (not the new HDMI, which shouldn't matter as the resolution is great, even if you shoot it back to the Tv from the device, rips to around 1GB for a 2 1/2 hr movie). Again it rips any movie you plug into it, it does coem with a fat remote the size of your palm of your hand, still trying to figure how it works. You can move the rip movie over to your system.
You stil lhave to purchase the correct adapter for your Archos unit to sit on the DVR for a snug fit..
Digital camera Review: DVR good! Charging station bad! Summary: 4 Stars
overall, the DVR station is very good at its jobs. as a video recorder, it is excellent. there are some learning curve items, but once you get smart, it works as advertised. the only issue i have is the charging side of the DVR station. my Archos 605 gets very warm while charging. this heat will cause the battery to have a reduced lifecycle.
since it is the only game in town. you will have to get one.
i am not a crackpot.
Digital camera Review: DVR kills the battery Summary: 1 Stars
A word of caution for the DVR unit. Leaving the archos 605 docked to a plugged-in DVR 24/7 will kill the battery. My 605 160gb was perfect for about a year. Then , i left it on the DVR for week straight, something i've never done before, and the battery only lasted 5 minutes after that. Before, I got a few hours of video time. Apparently, you're not supposed to leave the unit plugged in and attached to AC power for long periods of time. Which to me, makes no sense for a DVR, a funciton that relies on always being connected (and on ac power) to record shows throughout the week/month untli you're ready to watch on the go.
