In December of 2008 I purchased two of the Via Artigo A1000 builder kits for a networking project. I was attracted by the small size, low power consumption, and support for Linux. On the positive side, the machines ran Linux fine and were more than fast enough.
However, I can not recommend these devices.
1) One of the machines failed with a hardware (integrated motherboard) error after 10 months.
2) Via support was extremely difficult to work with, offering only email support and taking days to get back to me. It took over a month of back and forth emails to get a clear answer.
3) The Via "1 year" warranty starts from the time they ship to the retailer. So even though my A1000 failed only ten months after I purchased it, Via refused to honor the warranty.
4) The fan on the A1000 is very loud, too loud to keep running in a living room, office, etc.
5) Even with the loud fan, the devices run hot, averaging 115-120F in an open room.
