Digital camera reviews of Atlantic Satellite 77305018 2 Speaker Stands (Black)

Digital camera Review: Built like a tank
Summary: 5 Stars

For the price these stands are built like tanks. The base is quite heavy and the support rods are very sturdy. The three leg design of base might let a really heavy speaker become unsteady on thick carpet but that's the only functional issue I can see as a possible problem (although I didn't experience this with my setup). All hardware is included for differnt mounting styles and the wire can be fed through the support rods for a neat install.

Although these probably aren't the sexiest stands out there, they get the job done at a very good price and are built to last.

Digital camera Review: Buyer beware -- you get exactly what you pay for
Summary: 1 Stars

I just spent a VERY frustrating half hour putting these together. First off, I should mention that the stands are far from universal. If you have very generic, small square cube speakers, then you'll perhaps be okay (assuming you don't break the cheap plastic sleeve, and you probably will, more on that in a second). But if you have speakers with any kind of curve to them, like mine do -- the LG LHB977), then you'll have to resort to using little strips of double-sided tape. Yes, I said little strips of tape. And if your speakers don't have a perfectly solid, flat/flush square base (mine don't), then the tape is even more of a joke.

But the biggest problem with these are the cheap plastic sleeves which (supposedly) allow for easy height adjustment. HA! When extending them to full height, be VERY careful not to pull the two tubes apart, as it is remarkably easy to do so. And putting the tubes back together will easily break the inside of the plastic sleeve. And even if you manage to keep the two pieces together, the sleeve doesn't actually screw into anything -- it will just twist left or right until you break it. I finally had to use BLACK DUCT TAPE over one of the sleeves!!

Let's put it this way, it took me longer to get these @%*$^# to stand up straight and *tenuously* hold my speakers than it did to set up my entire home theater setup. I'm pretty good at assembling stuff (even Ikea furniture), but after much swearing and sweating, these stands are about as stable as a house of cards. One good sneeze in their direction, and I'm pretty certain they will collapse and send my speakers to the floor.

I've bought a LOT of stuff on Amazon over the years, and I can't remember feeling so stupid that I had bought such a budget-priced product. Sure, they're cheap. Because they're cheap!

Digital camera Review: Can't Beat the Quality for the Price
Summary: 4 Stars

I chose these speaker stands after reading all the other reviews of these stands, as well as those of other brands. I'm writing to tell you everything said is true --- these are solid, great-quality speaker stands. They are good looking, the base is nice and heavy and sturdy. They are easily put together (the bracket that your speaker will attach to is a little funky to put together, but nothing major). Finally, for the PRICE, it's not even a contest! These stands are half the price of their competitors, and I can't see how other stands could beat these. You can even run the speaker wire through the stands to hide it from view. A Solid "A" grade. The only thing that stopped me from giving it 5 stars was the less-than-perfect bracket assembly process...but again, it's no big deal, and these are certainly worth every penny.

Digital camera Review: Can't beat the price, but be aware of your speaker size and dimensions
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought 2 sets for my Onkyo front and surround speakers, which are 10" tall. I know those are outside the recommended speaker dimensions but I figured for this price I would give it a shot and see for myself.

1) ASSEMBLY
The assembly of the stands was fairly easy, and after I had figured out the first one the other three went pretty quickly; fishing the wire up the stand is the most tedious part as the top opening is fairly small if you've completely assembled the stand and mount prior to feeding the wires.

2) SPEAKER COMPATIBILITY AND MOUNTING OPTIONS
As far as speaker dimensions and compatibility, I mentioned my Onkyo speakers were 10" tall. Given the position of the mounting hole in the speakers, this did not allow me to use the rear bolt/screw mounting option. If you want to use the rear mount bolts for holes in the back of your speakers, the holes your speakers can be no higher than 3.75-4" (and 4" is probably pushing it) from the speaker base (Mine were 5.25" D'OH!).

If you can not use the rear bolt mount option, you have two other options: 1) Screw the base plate directly into the bottom of your speaker with 4 small screws (which were included). OR 2) Use double sided-tape (Included) to affix the speakers to the stands. I elected to use the double-sided tape since it was minimally invasive and less permanent should I later decide that I do not like the way the stands work. It's only been a couple weeks but this option has held up well so far.

If you use the double-sided tape and still have the rear bracket installed, be sure the bracket is slid out as far back as possible, or it will push against the rear of the speaker and put pressure on it to tilt forward, pulling the bottom of the speaker up from the tape. This is likely less of an issue if your speakers are only 4-5" tall.

3) DURABILITY AND APPEARANCE
The stands look very nice for the price, and are obviously better than having your speakers sit on various pieces of furniture as I previously had. They are built solidly, the bases are a good weight, and the stands are not likely to topple over unless you have really heavy speakers mounted at the maximum height and then start break dancing in your living room or something.

The height is adjustable, but be aware that you can not extend it to the full height or the stand gets extremely wobbly and unstable (this may in part be due to my slightly larger than recommended speakers, though they did not exceed the weight recommendations). I would recommend sticking with 2-3" below the maximum height adjustment so as not to sacrifice stability.

OVERALL
Overall I am very pleased with these stands. The price can't be beat, and I fully expected the mounting options may not have been ideal for me given the size of my speakers, but the kit comes with enough hardware to accommodate multiple mounting options and speaker sizes.

Digital camera Review: Cast iron beauties
Summary: 5 Stars

I was so surprised when I discovered these were some sort of cast iron all the way through. They stand upright very sturdy, use the pole for cable hiding, and the shape of the base makes it easy to tuck into tight spaces. Good stuff.
